Some of you know we recently installed a Whipple Gen 3 Supercharger on MetroNYC's 2011 Raptor truck. This truck was already running the Whipple Supercharger kit and had our custom dyno tune. The truck had been running the Whipple 2.9L Gen 2 Supercharger with our tune for nearly 4 years. The truck has just over 40K on the odometer, running ARH long tube headers and GREEN cats, Ford Racing twin 65mm throttle body, and 47lb injectors.
It took a little over a day to complete the blower swap, we also installed a fresh set of NGK 6510 plugs gapped at .030" during the install. We strapped it down on the dyno immediately after and made the first pull. We only took it to 4,000 RPM but at that point we saw a 30 HP gain and nearly 30 lb/ft of torque! The next pull we attempted 5,000 RPM but at 4,800 the truck ran out of fuel and it limited throttle angle. We made another attempt and it did it again. After looking at the logs we could see the injectors were maxed out, the truck was making over 500 RWHP at 4800 RPM and running lean.
Previously the truck made 548 RWHP with a 3.25 Pulley (11-12 psi) and was pretty much at the limit of the injectors then. With the new blower, same 3.25 pulley, same boost 11-12 psi the power is coming in sooner now and causing the injectors to peak earlier. So we decided on a larger set of injectors, we ordered Deatschwerks 78 lb/hr injectors and swapped them out last week. We got the truck on the dyno a few days later and remapped the fuel injector tables for the bigger injectors.
Keeping the fuel curve the same and the timing same as well locked at only 12 degrees we made 576 RWHP!! Basically 30 RWHP gain over the old unit. The power didn't just pick up peak, it was from the hit of the throttle all the way through red line 30 HP more the entire run! This is power you will feel seat of the pants. Whipple claims 30+ HP gains and they aren't lying! It's nice to see a company back up their claims.
So now we are offering custom tuning for 78 lb/hr injectors for customers running the Gen 3 blower or who are looking to maximize the potential of their Gen 2 by going to a smaller pulley. If you are interested or would like to upgrade the injectors and tune give us a call at 732-780-0770!
