I'm not anti-mod but there's a big difference between WANT & NEED in regard to modifying a Raptor.
Most WANT a lot more than NEED.
If you're wanting to mod then do what you want
If you need it that's a different story IMO.
I'm with you on this one, it's fun to put parts on, but it can get you in trouble.
Suspension mods is a prime example. I've done a ton of driving on stock 2.5s, modified 2.5s and then 3.0s and my conclusion is that if you don't already understand the truck's limitations from experience exceeding the stock shocks' limitations, you're in no way ready to run with a more capable shock. This logic works with Gen2s as well.
The thing with the Raptor is that it is extremely confidence inspiring and gives you no real sense of its limit until you've got said limit in your rear view mirror. So, with stock suspension this'll happen at lets say 40-60mph. With upgraded suspension the same discovery that you've passed your limits will happen at 60-80mph and the consequences will be much more severe.
If people would run their trucks and get a sense of how they perform, where the limits really are, then add mods based on that experience, they'd save money and get a truck that will be tailored to what they need. Honestly as a starter list I'd do two things and two things only.
A) Perch collar/CAS/Icon thingy/etc... just because it gets the front end up a little.
B) Bumpstop kit to prevent damage.
Other than that, go rip on it and see where you need to improve.
I just gave legit advice...that feels weird.
