Gen 2 build quality better?

Gen 2 was built during normal times do you think the quality would be better than gen3 built seemingly blind? The wrinkle in the seat is what got me thinking like wtf that’s going to look awful in 2-3years. I have a 22 coming so I’m already lacking all the cool stuff. Kinda like what they did with the 2017 f250 color changing ambient light and ditched it in 18+

Anywho do you think the gen 3 is more slopped together and shoved out to meet the numbers? Who’s replacing that seat down the line maybe someone can stretch it out?
This is my first raptor so I cant speak from personal experience on previous gens but I just picked up my 22 last weekend with several cosmetic issues that I havent seen on any other ford vehicles ive owned. I too have a seat issue (very saggy section of the passenger seat where it says Raptor), a few spots on the paint where there is something under the paint with one in particular causing the paint to being to peel, a spot on the roof where the paint looks like it was dripping and dried, the right paddle shifter paint is chipped and there's what looks like some kind of residue that leaked from under the windshield and dried at some point. I love the truck and am fine as long as these things get addressed (taking it in tomorrow) but I definitely feel like so many of these things are the result of rushing through to get trucks out the door.

Separate note - anyone else who picked up their 22 notice that the front interior cabin lights are led but those in the back are not? I havent really cared about the changes from 21 to 22 but its a little weird that the cabin has mixed lighting.

So far, I have found no quality control failures on my Raptor. I have gone over the items from the tread "things to check on your new Raptor" and found nothing out of place. It's a beautiful truck and seems put together with care. Far better than my '91 F150 when it was new. My '91 had the paint applied to the roof so thin you could see each pass of the spray gun and it was semi transparent between passes.

On my '21 the fuses could be pushed in a tad more but all were serviceable as they were. I blame that "tad more" on how a robot must be programed to insert the fuses. The robot would not be happy if it hit a dead stop at the bottom and would likely break the fuse or fuse block.

Given the complexity of this truck and how Ford intermixes models going through the plant I feel they have done a fantastic job. Go inspect a new Dodge for comparison. Plus the fact that your warranty will cover any repairs if needed resulting in income for your dealer that Ford must pay. They are motivated to get it as right as possible.

Sounds like you work for Ford.. lol. Ford quality is out the window... paint quality sucks, misaligned doors, sloppy seam sealant, wavy panels, poor fitting leather and the list goes on.
On my third Raptor and 4th Ford truck, all have had quality issues some worse than others. Why do I keep buying Ford trucks? I like the looks, driveabilty and they do truck stuff better than the other brands in my opinion.

Stopped and looked at a Tundra, fit and finish was excellent but they are still using the same cheap shit interior plastic that scratches when you breath on it. Funny they are using a v6 turbo that is supposed to get better MPG than their V8. My 37PP Raptor can achieve the same MPG as the Tundra around town !
All brands have issues, but I think Ford gets away with a lot because their trucks look cool and perform well. One day another automaker will get their shit together and put a dent in Fords sales.

I agree with other in that implementation had some issue and it was almost all due to COVID. My GEN 3 has had:

- blown turbo after 1300 miles (turbo replacement)
- exhaust rattling issue (full replacement)
- engine valve diaphragm cover seated incorrectly (found when turbo replaced)
- very out of date software to the point that the wireless charging and several other features didn’t work
- pro power issues
- mirror folding motor dead on passenger side
- touch lock on door handle not working

And I’m currently sitting at ~2000 miles today. That’s not to say I have not loved this truck and I still do, it just sucks it turned out that way. Even with the issues I still smile every time I hit that throttle and whenever I see it.

Accross the board purchasing quality made consumer goods in any sector is rare. I don’t know what happened but as time progresses, the quality drops substantially. It’s the new norm and my theory is because people get more and more impatient each year leading to broken promises.

Anyway, Ford still makes great vehicles. At least you didn’t buy a Mclaren 720s that has a door edge scratch the body of the car when you open it lol.

I def think my 2017, and my 2019 were of better quality . I have a 2021 with the 37pp. It came with a paint blemish near the headlight, some sort of over spray all over the grill. The issues are being taken care of by the dealer, but still issues my other two raptors did not have. Another issue i have is the exhaust tips. My previous two trucks had black tips that over time faded out, however my new truck from day one seemed to have quite faded tips. I know I probably sound ridiculous, but it just seems that the quality is less in some aspects to me. It’s just disappointing to spend good money on a truck, and to have issues that a truck half the price does not have.

If someone hasn’t had an issue, that doesn’t mean they’re not being honest or objective; the statistics show that those with issues are the minority. I’m on my 3rd F-150, and I have never had any build quality issues with any of them that required a dealer visit. The only issue on my ‘19 was the center rear armrest leather wasn’t fully seated, which was a 5 minute fix. Have there been more issues since COVID labor and parts shortages? It’s certainly a possibility, but I haven’t seen it personally or reflected in the reviews and quality ratings.

I had a 2017 lariat that was so terrible it eventually got bought back by Ford…but the paint and interior on it was perfect. My 2019 Raptor 802A was bullet proof. No issues mechanically, or electronically, but it had paint defects that needed attention (Ford fixed). My 2021 35” 801A seems to be better than the 2019 in every way so far. No issues to speak of other than another paint defect and the fuses needed to be pushed down. Ford will fix the paint this time around too as soon as I have time to get it done.

Just got back from Raptor Assault and they were running 2022 37pp trucks. The fit and finish on those appeared to be excellent as well.

It makes sense that trucks built during times of labor shortages and high employee turnover would have more issues but luckily mine seems to have avoided it.

Logic would conclude with all the labor and supply chain issues Gen3 would have more issues . I also think the workforce takes a step back every year , people don’t take the same pride in their work .
