Gen-1 Raptor Questions (advice appreciated!) -new to forum

It is heavier than an f150, buy the 6.2 and the suspension make it feel pretty nimble for such a big truck. Find one to test drive. I have to drive my company car during the week, so I really look forward to driving my Raptor whenever I can.

Feels light. I have owned Super Dutys and Regular F150s. That 6.2L Greats so much power that your foot is Barely on the Gas Pedal. When u do it will throw you into your seat. The Suspension is AWESOME. It's not made for Heavy loads but I di MX on the weekends and carrys my bike and all equipment Very Well. Get Your Front Suspension Set to Mid Perch setting and you well Notice a HUGE improvement in handling. The Truck was Originally designed for that setting but the DOT told Ford the bumper height was to high thus FOX made a correction but any suspension shop can very easily set to Mid Perch and cheaply.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty sure the Raptor is the right truck for me then. Now the challenge is to find a low mileage one for a good price! What would you prefer the Tan or Black colour? I go back and forth but it may have to come down to what I can find...

Of all the different trucks I have driven including Dodge and Chevy it the most comfortable and FUN truck to drive. However it is a noisy one. Took a while for to get used the chirping the suspension makes. It's all due to the Hydraulic actuation in the shocks and the axle width is wider than any truck so be careful around curbs

If it has over 50,000 miles you will need to get the suspension serviced. Cost about a grand to do but it's just maintenance all trucks need maintenance and it will last forever. I would go Tan. There are so many Black ones out there. Mine is the Volcanic Orange

Tan or "terrain" as it is called, if probably easier to keep clean, but my tuxedo black is one sexy beast. Black is faster, too...

I have over 80,000 miles on my 2011 6.2L Raptor. It's been my only four wheeled vehicle throughout my ownership of it. It's been my daily driver, and it was the vehicle with which I moved from northern Alabama to northern Nevada. It is a stone reliable exceptionally capable workhorse. The width and height have never been a problem except with regard to parking in low-ceiling parking structures with tight confines. I wash my own truck, so the width has never been a factor for me in commercial car washes. The 6.2L runs very happily on mid-grade fuel.

The Raptor used to attract a great deal of attention. When there were few on the road I found myself popping the hood and delivering the Ford Raptor Orientation Briefing with astounding frequency for people who were fascinated enough to approach a stranger in parking lots and gas stations. I even gave the briefing to a police officer! No longer. There are enough Raptors on the road now that my briefing has been on the shelf gathering dust for several years.

@Sozzy12 is right on the money concerning how it handles. The wide track and deep suspension makes it astoundingly nimble and comfortable. There is a traffic roundabout near my home that I must negotiate every day, and I can blow through it at 35 mph. Nobody has ever maintained their distance behind me through that roundabout.

I would not buy anything with the 5.4L in it. That engine has a history of spitting out spark plugs, particularly the rearmost two.

Thanks for the offer I'll see what I can do! Do you find it alright navigating downtown Toronto traffic and whatnot? I guess as long as it stays in the lanes (which I'm sure it will) then it'll be ok. Guess I'll be visiting the gas pump a little more than I would have liked haha. What do you do in Toronto? I'm usually down here for work and classes near TGH


Im a f.f. at Yorkville station, so Im down there all the time. Downtown traffic is ******, no matter what you drive. What I absolutely love about the Raptor, is people stay away from you. Seriously, I had it in the shop recently, and was driving a compact, and the driver habits were completely changed. They just stay away from the truck wether its the fact it takes so much space on the road, or whatever reason. Parking isn't that tough since it is a smaller wheel base, its just a very wide truck. Yoeah, you will be at the pump more frequently, depending on where you live, but I always say its smiles per gallon. I find shell 91 the best bang for the buck. You get better mileage, throttle response, and exhaust components cleanliness. One other huge perk, you will always know where you parked since it doesn't blend in with anything else in the lot!

Guess the 6.2 is the way to go! I've seen about 10 raptors in my 5 years of living in parry sound ontario so maybe americans like raptors a lot more. All I see on the roads these days are regular F-150s left right and centre and mostly people just hauling groceries and kids around while the chrome tow hitch is still shiny and unscathed haha.

Finally get rid of those tailgaters once and for all! Love Toronto but whenever I come down the traffic is damn awful. Speaking of Toronto, let's see how the Raptors do tonight ;). Also, by f.f do you mean firefighter? Not very accustomed to acronyms haha

Yes. The 6.2L is a Die Hard Work Horse of an engine. Just change fluids and plugs and it just keeps going and going. There is NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT. Turbos on smaller engines create alot of Strees on the Heads. I know that can be argumentative to boosted fans but fact is I have never seen small boosted Engines last as long as a good old fashioned V8
