Gauge Mode: Trans Temp

Anyone know what the max/min range is for good transmission performance. I've seen it as high as 195 degrees, so far.

Generally under 250f is considered safe. Heat is the enemy of automatics. The cooler the better.

Optimal Trans temp is 175 degree. every 20 degrees above that will cut trans fluid life in half. 6R80 have also have cooler bypass which doesn't allow the cooler to cool until trans reaching operating temp and is set around 147 degrees. 195 isn't abnormal to see with the vehicle though

Would a better way of saying that is "Generally up to 250F is considered safe."?

I think my Z06 generally ran a bout 190-195... I can't remember I had a vehicle over 200F??? That is, unless it was overheating? Maybe the Z06 got to 210F if I was running it hard out on the twisties.

Wish they'd give us oil temp and water temp in gauge mode too...

My average trans temp when saturated on a 90-deg. humid day seems to be around 180. In traffic it'll creep up to 190.

I finally found this thread again. I learned an answer I wanted to share. In a earlier post above I said 175F is optimal trans temp. It was true in the past but not true with current merconLV transmission fluid. It is designed to run 195-215F I will double check my number tomorrow but that is really close. I believe the trans cooler bypass doesnt begin to move until trans reaches 180F. I wanted everyone to know there isnt a worry of your trans temp running slightly hotter. I hope this helps everyone because I had to ask a guy who knows a guy who talked to his guy to find out answer from his guy.

I have hit over 260f on the transmission. How? 100mph+ in 4WD in the desert. I have an aftermarket cooler now. Anything over 240 is not a good thing.

Last summer I drove from Alabama to Colorado during the heat wave. I saw exterior temps as high as 113, but the tranny temp never went above 200. It's never gone above 200.
