Ford issued a new cam phaser design and changed the part number (ends in CD) in the Production Cycle July 2018. The 2019 Raptors have the updated part.

Those CD parts were not updated until May/June of 2019. There were 2019s on here that still had the problem...

I was debating the same when I bought my truck. Found a great deal on a 2018 802A that was still new and sitting on a dealer lot in March 2019. It was hard to find a truck back then that wasn't loaded out. The only base trucks I could find were in New Mexico for some reason and were sold by the time I contacted the dealer. In hindsight I'm glad I got the 802A, especially for the 360 camera. These trucks are wide and it makes it so much easier to park in tight spots with the camera system. My truck was built in 8/18 and has the metal oil pan.

I would definitely go with the 2018. I looked at both as well and as others have mentioned, most of your driving will be on pavement as a daily driver and you will want those leather seats with heat/cool and most importantly that 360 camera. The live valve Fox's are just OK from my perspective and not having the 802A was a deal breaker.

IMO 2019. If all the extra's that come with the 802A package are that important to you, I'd wait, and buy the 19-20 version with 801a-802a when you can.
The Live Valve Suspension is an upgrade from the 17-18.
At the end of the day, its just balancing what you want / are willing to spend.

I have the 2019 800A package, and I love it. Don't get me wrong all the bells and whistles on the 801/802 are awesome. My daily driver has those. For me, I just wanted the Raptor, and all the used low mile ones were basically the same price, so I decided to buy new with the exact options that fit my needs + warranty.

Best of luck! Post it if you buy one

Are you used to having the extra features the 802a provides in your other cars? I already had many of those features in my previous SUV and felt like I was stepping down if I went into something that didn't have them anymore. But I understand about the somewhat improved suspension, although that may not matter if you don't off-road it a lot. The later 2018s were built with the metal oil pan, so look underneath or see when it was built. I can't remember, but I think it was sometime after March of 2018 they had the metal. Mine was built in April and it's metal. I'm sure you'll enjoy it either way :)

802a all the way. Yeah the 19 has a couple well needed revisions (metal oil pan, phasers, live valve) but if you ever want to upgrade to a newer year down the road, the fully loaded raptor will retain its value better.

First of all, Welcome and You Cant Lose! Personally, I had the choice between 2018 and 2019 802a's, purchasing in December of 2018. Test drive both with wife and kids in car. Everyone agreed the 2018 rode softer (with what we later learned to have 80 lbs of tire pressure!!) and was more luxurious with the fully leather interior than the fully loaded 2019. I did the Raptor school in a 2019, so had some time to play with it too. We now have 30k on our 2018 (just replaced the KO2's) of mostly freeway pulling my boat between Orange County and Lake Havasu, but also more than 50 days of (easy to moderate) offroading from Baja to Alabama Hillls in mid California - great times!

Here's my thoughts:
(1) From a resale point of view, buy the newer truck.
(2) I/We personally prefer the ride of the 2018, (we run 40/35 on the freeway, 35/25 on trail).
(3) I/We use all the options, including the sunroof which i tried to avoid buying, but now occasionally enjoy. Note: Those options include the upgraded 4WD on the front end.
(4) The ride and options count for all the time you are on the freeway, which is a HUGE MOST of the time, including driving to and from the off-roading.
(5) The only option I want from the 2019 is the trail cruise control thing that crawls up hills at 1-3 mph. I want for that maybe 3% of the time I am offroad (which isnt much overall.)

Finally, PLEASE get out and off-road your truck - it is shockingly good offroad, and especially in the snow with the KO2's.

Hope this helps!

Trail control will do 1 to 20 mph in 1 mph increments forward and in 4wh 1 to 10 mph in .5 mph increments in 4wl and 5 mph in reverse.
