I would go to another dealer. The gas door is not a cosmetic issue, it's broke. And why did they deny replacing the 3rd brake light? That one is definitely something that should replaced under warranty.

I called the 800 cuss-tomer service number, was told that even though I purchased the 100K mile extended warranty, the fuel door was a "COSMETIC" item and therefore not covered. (She said it would have been covered under the factory 36K mile warranty). I requested to escalate this was curtly told there was not escalation and that was the final answer. I also told that cosmetic meant subject to normal wear and tear...

Welcome to the forum, AimlessRolling. I'd like to dig into this a bit deeper and see what options are available to help. How many miles are on your truck?

Hi Crystal,

I purchased the 2011 Raptor truck used from a local FORD dealer in February of 2013, with 25K miles on it. Also a the time of purchase I opted for the FORD extended 100K warranty so I would not have to worry about things failing. The warranty has been good so far, had a couple of minor things taken care of at the 36K mark, but as I am nearing the 100K mark, it is time for me to stop procrastinating and get things done.

The truck has 89K miles, and I have a service writer working on several issues, but he said that he has this fuel door spring issue before and that it has not been covered by FORD in the past. (The items that ARE covered that he is working on are the drivers door handle spring, ventilation system fan controls inoperable, fan damper clicking at startup, and horn is intermittent, - all of which are covered. I requested info on who to call to discuss this with and was given the 800 number.

I should also note that while the truck is at the dealer, I will also be getting between $500 to $1000 in other services (tranny service, radiator service, etc.) as it is time for the major service interval anyway.

As the fuel door appears to be a common issue, and has absolutely nothing to do with the number of times I have filled up the truck (it's a RAPTOR, so yes, the fuel door sees a lot of use LOL), I am somewhat confused as to why this item is not covered by warranty.

Thanks for your help, I look forward to hearing back.

I agree that something like this should be covered. It's a poor design and an easy fix. Getting the door assembly off is a bitch, but it's doable. You don't have anybody who can give you a hand?

Hi Joker,

I am south of Houston TX, halfway between Houston and Lake Jackson on Hwy 288.

Maybe someone has found a trick to get the tabs down, I was thinking about wrapping some large tie wraps or a strap around them and squeezing them down until it pops out...?

I purchased the Ford premium care extended warranty for my 2014 and it is an extra charge to cover the lighting. I want to say it was $75 which may be why they won't cover the 3rd brake light.

So what exactly does the extended warranty cover then if lighting and cosmetic is out. Never mind that a fuel door is not cosmetic since if it does not function correctly it will lead to throwing a cel light since dirt will in the fuel trap will cause poor seals. This is why I never purchase extended warranties, the wording is always written with too many loop holes. I was once told my emergency brake cable was a wear item and not covered by dodge. Not the brake pad or rotor but the cable attached to the pedal.

I've had a few things which they covered under the ESP... my rear window, the blend door, upper control arm's, tie rods, and my 120volt plug, my shocks were denied though. The fuel door is such an easy fix, I wouldn't have the dealer install a new one, just so it could break in another year. I don't see my fix failing anytime soon.

I bought the premium warranty too. They didn't have a lighting option then so not sure if it would be covered on mine or not. I had my 3rd brake light replaced but under 36/3yrs

Stealerships are extremely eager to sell you a warranty but with the same enthusiasm to deny a warranty claim.
