On the 2010 models the rear camera was a separate option. When I bought my 2011 it was grouped into the "Raptor Plus Package" with the trailer brake controller. I don't own a trailer but wanted the camera for backing into the garage, so I bought the package.
My garage is a two-car affair with two single doors, and there is a load bearing steel post on the centerline of the garage. My wife's car, two motorcycles, and my shop are all shoehorned into this standard sized garage, so putting the Raptor right where I need it to go is really important to me. Bad language will ensue if I miss. So I taped a pistol target to the back wall of the garage and I aim the centerline of the rear camera at that target. Works every time. I don't have the nav system, so the picture is displayed on the rear view mirror. It works well for me.
For the life of me I can't figure out what you'd do with a front camera. To me this is a case of engineers doing what they can do without asking themselves why they're doing it. Maybe it was the marketeers who came up with that idea as a way of boosting the bottom line.
