Well I think my truck is almost certainly totaled. It was submerged completely. You can say I exceeded the max fording depth. I'll have to see how the insurance company handles it. Odds are I may not have a truck. I do want to come. If I can't and somebody needs a hotel room, I have a room reserved.

That truly sucks! Sorry to hear about that. Hopefully the insurance company won't try to leave you hanging on it.

Yeah, exactly. I have just seen guys get screwed by insurance companies that said that something like off roading their vehicle was not covered because they have special policy endorsements for something like that. You know how insurance companies can be...

I had taken my family and our boat to the lake for a short little trip on the water. We were done playing and ready to leave. I backed the truck down the ramp, til the rear tires were just barely in the water, put it in park, set the brake, shut it off, and went back to my wife who was holding the boat at the bank.

She went back to the truck and waited next to it, while I idled over to the trailer. Before I got the boat to the trailer, the truck started sliding down the ramp more into the water. She was not in the truck - she was standing next to it. Nobody was touching it. I have no idea why it sat there fine for 10 minutes and then slid in.

She opened the door and hit the brake, but the wheels were locked and sliding. I jumped off the boat and pushed her out of the way, trying to get it started to pull out of the water, but it went very fast. The water level was over the steering column as fast as I could even get to it. I turned the key once and nothing - everything electrical was screwed up already. Had to get a wrecker with a long powerful winch to pull it out.

I'll post some pics later, but it went completely under. Adjuster called today and said to plan on it being a total loss. I called the dealer I ordered from & he's looking for a truck like mine now. I've felt sick since it happened.

It changed the way I will launch and load boats from now on. First off, our kids are small, and when launching would have been in a car seat. Never again will they be in the truck during either process. I will also put the truck in 4WD and probably lock the axle when on the ramp.

Anyway, I hope I can find a truck to take to the run. I appreciate the offers for a co-driver and might have to take somebody up on it. I have 2 friends who were eager to come with me, and they're probably out of luck if I don't get a truck. It just really makes me sick. I had done a bunch of little things to mine (paint protection, etc) that won't be replaceable.

Doc I am just glad you did not have anyone in the truck at the time. I have done the exact same procedure for loading and unloading my boat as described and it has never budged or felt loose. This truly is an eye opener. I am sorry about the truck but that will be replaced, just truly glad you didn't have a kid inside when this happened.

Total eye opener for me.

Same here Doc. I have launched boats many times myself doing the same thing. Damn the image of the truck going under makes me sick man.

I hope you can find a truck.

10-4 on the kids. I would never have thought!

If you find anything this way or want me to check something out for you just let me know.

Sorry again...

WOW, man, that does suck! Glad the kids weren't in it at the time. In that case, I can't see where the insurance would ever even consider not covering it. Hope you find a replacement before the Havoc run!
