I got a question, yesterday it was helmets, today it is "Recovery Gear". I know we need tow ropes 20' with D ring hooks, but what should we really have for the run and for the truck in general?
Thanks,
Fred
Here are the things I usually have in my truck's tool bag:
20' tow strap
20' snatch strap
3 shackles
Basic hand tools
zip ties
tire slime & plug kit
racer's tape (high strength duct tape)
electrical tape
various electrical connectors
work gloves
nitrile gloves
Things I have secured in the cab:
mini-air compressor
complete first aid kit
fire extinguisher
Thermal blankets
In the bed:
Full tool box
Hi-Lift Jack
fire extinguisher
case of water
spare tire.
Awhile back we posted up a photo from Erik Miller (2012 King of the Hammers Champion and volunteer driving instructor for this event) who asked a very similar question and offered up a little bit of a challenge on this very subject. Here's a copy of that poste:
Erik Miller said:How well thought out are your trail tools? Here is a great test to see if they're up to par... Next time you prep your rig for the next race or trail ride, try using nothing but what's in your trail bag. The question will answer itself pretty quick! Who has tried this before?
you can read a lot of the responses he got HERE
