I just picked up a set of 4 Fox Shocks, both front and rear for under $500 and they need a rebuild. How involved is a rebuild with typical hand tools or is this something better left to professionals? I am in the San Antonio area and have no issue with dropping them off at a recommended shop to be rebuilt. I'm in no rush to get these rebuilt since my 2014 Gen 1 has only 33,600 miles on it at this time.

They aren't crazy hard to do, but you do have to be mindful. You'll probably need a few tools and a way to charge nitrogen.
Just take your time, do some research and don't crack that thing open with it still charged.
Kartek has almost everything you'll need. Tools that are handy as hell to have are oring spoons, a reservoir piston tool and a shaft bullet. Oh and a vice is a must.

Read and watch all you can on rebuilding them. Lots of info on this site about rebuilding. I bought a set of good condition used ones from a member on here. It does make it easy with no rush to get them done. If your a hands on type just take your time , its no big deal. You will need the tools to do it though. I built myself a holding jig which made it very easy.
I just finished mine and have installed the rears. I still have to install the fronts, they are charged and ready to go in. I did a flutter stack upgrade while they were apart. I would recommend a Shrader Valve upgrade as well.

I won't be able to tackle this on my own. I don't have any way to recharge the nitrogen. Any reputable shops I can ship them off to get rebuilt? I don't need a super fast turn around since my current shocks are in great shape.

Forged Off-road rebuilt my Gen 1 fronts and Gen 2 rears. Their turn around time is fast, the work is quality.
