I guess what bugs me most about UAW types is the way the union PR reps act. Have seen interviews where a manufacturer will state its case quite well and logically, and then the union guy rebuts by stating that the manufacturer is "out to get them" and has "tons of money". The union guy will provide no meaningful figures, instead only quoting big gross values that have no meaning until you divide them up per capita. They tend to talk about their supporting employer like they're some comic book villain that is so twisted that they don't even have a meaningful motive (e.g. fame, money, women) but is instead out simply to "destroy the world".
I can't tell for sure if the manufacturer is right, it may be a function of the manufacturer having a good PR guy and the union putting forth the village idiot. Whatever the case, it's given me a very negative opinion of the UAW. That said, I have a very positive opinion about the Ford and GM employees who are required to belong to the UAW and have built every truck I've ever purchased. I just think they need better representation.
