MarkT....

I cited the GM case you used in your counterpoint in my point... actually it was most of my point. The financial arm of Ford is (was) a subsidiary, GM had a more tenuous relationship with their finance companies... so in the sense that if your kid takes out a loan then a member of your household is in debt...

True they were typically overnights, but that is beside the point. a division of Ford took TARP/Bailout. Not nearly as much as GM and Chrysler did... but having someone claim that Ford is the only motor company that did not take federal funds is like saying the McVeigh family never killed anyone because only one member ever blew up a building and that should not really count when you consider that hatfields and mccoys had way more killers. Sure you can spin it like that... if you are a good PR man... does not make it true or accurate...

Let us break it down to simplest terms...

Did any federal TARP/STIMULUS/BAILOUT/OBAMANOMICS/ITSBUSHESFAULT money go to Ford:

YUP

End of story...

Jeez Frogchucker, make a definition big enough and you can drive anything under it. The fact that our government was throwing money around in buckets the size of Rhode Island under the name of TARP has a lot to do with it. If you want to be accurate why not give us a list of all the companies and all the BS projects that got THAT money?!

"Let us break it down (in the) simplest (of) terms..."

Did LOTS of people in the country get TARP money? Are politicians self-serving?

So you agree that Ford DID take those funds and that any statement to the contrary is false... good.

The rest of that statement boils down to "and because all your freinds jumped off of a bridge it is fine for you to do it as well"...

BTW:
"Let us break it down to simplest terms" means to simplify a problem to its core elements.

"Let us break it down (in the) simplest (of) terms..." means to paraphrase using less complicated terminology.

It is important to know whereof you "[sic]"

Yes I am being pedantic... it is finals week. I am stressed.

I hope you're going to school to be a lawyer...or a professor of semantics :)

You're in an exclusive club of posters who deserve two pics in one response

Business actually, (which is why I know about finance etc) with a concentration in computer info systems. When you stare at 100 lines of php looking for your error which turns out to be a misplaced comma, accuracy of expression suddenly seems less pedantic.

I will eventually be getting my Doctorate in law.
