This whole Raptor R thing has me totally perplexed… other then the motor, which is arguably not very impressive, and the “exclusivity” which just simply means the whole buying experience is annoying for most folks, what exactly are you paying for? Who wants to pay fully loaded GWagon pricing for a set of 37’s you could get on your own?

I’m not trying to be a d***, I am poking around to see if I’m better off letting my TRX order fall through… but nothing I see makes me feel like a loaded TRX for $88k is the wrong move…

Can someone educate me?

Man, if you think an 88k pickup truck is a great move to save some bucks, you need to rethink things. There is a reason why you can order a TRX for 11 under sticker, but you can't sniff an R under whatever the number is today. Lightweight, 2wd option, factory 37's and front limited slip. Everyone knows it's better, otherwise they're being dishonest.

It's like comparing Garrison Bros to Old #7, they will both get the job done, but which one do you really want?

I'll take the brokedick V6 poverty raptor myself, but I am not a baller. So I am just talking out of my ace.

Seriously? So a couple hundred lbs lighter ‍ If that’s worth 135-160k or whatever people are claiming they will have to pay? I’m happy paying below MSRP for a better power plant as a baseline, knowing that if and when I want to drop 10-15k into the engine compartment I’ll be making 1000+ at the wheels, an equivalent suspension (despite your claim) and still get a luxury interior off the shelf.

I was legitimately curious and not trying to start s***, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that the first response I get looked like that.

If the TRX and the Raptor R were the same price, I may concede that the R is the better vehicle (lighter and similar power). Where I get lost is that the R will cost at least $20,000 more than a TRX. The R is going to be one hell of a truck, but I’m not convinced it’s $20,000 or more better than the TRX.

Buying either one is dumb. So it comes down to which flavor of dumb is your favorite. Would you ask us what kind of ice cream to order?

A lot depends on what sort of deal you can get. The R is going to hold it's value better than the TRX, so if you get an R at or near MSRP, you aren't in a bad spot. There are other vehicles you can get that make better investments, but if you're looking to have fun without losing a ton of money, it's a factor.

Getting factor 37s means that you get a spare 37 (you can't fit the spare on other trucks) and the shocks are tuned accordingly, etc.

$20k means a lot when you're deciding between a vehicle that costs $20k and one that costs $40k. It means a lot less when you're deciding between $90k and $110k. Not nothing, but not as much. As well, vehicles shouldn't be viewed as pure expenses. A $20k price difference means much less when the more expensive vehicle holds it's value by an extra $10k, for example.
