The same "logic" that was used on the rear differential cover was also used on the front differential cover - no drain plug. The transfer case, however, has both drain and fill plugs. (Brilliant!) I'm putting one 1/2" NPT magnetic plug in the transfer case drain location, and another in the front differential fill location on the assumption that when the gears turn the gear oil will come in contact with the plug. The company advises to put magnetic plugs in both the drain and fill locations if you have them.

I ordered the magnetic drainplug for my engine oil pan. I'll use it during my next oil change. I also got a $5 refund because I mentioned VWVortex because I'm also a member over there from my days owning a GTI. Apparently Dimple offers a small discount by mentioning certain forums (not ours currently). Maybe we could get them to be a sponsoring vendor here and/or provide the same small discount if interest is hight enough. It's only $5, but every little bit helps and at least it makes the shipping free.

I exchanged several emails with the owner and he was willing to a discount if I could put in a big order but frankly it's too much work to gather the troops. :(

I've had an illuminating exchange with Richard Jodoin, the owner. I thought that if I measured the NPT plug, that would be the dimension I needed. So I measured the fill and drain plugs on the transfer case, they were 3/4 inch, and I made an order with Dimple for two 3/4 inch drain plugs. It turns out that 3/4 inch NPT plugs are about an inch in diameter - too big. So I sent them back to Richard with $5 to cover shipping because the mistake was mine, and he cheerfully and immediately sent me back what I needed - two 1/2 NPT plugs. I am dead certain that I cost him money in time, trouble, and I bet the $5 didn't cover shipping. I can heartily recommend Dimple Magnetic Oil Plugs.

I did my last oil change and took a sample for UOL. I'll do another sample after I change my oil again since I just installed the Dimple drainplug. Theoretically the iron content should go down if the plug is having the advertised affect. I'll post all my UOL results here and in the oil analysis thread when I get a chance. I already have my baseline results ready to upload. I just need I save it as an image and crop out my personal info.

See attached pic for my recent UOA which includes the history of my previous sample results as well. This is before the using the Dimple drainplug. Currently, I'm changing oil every 5000 miles since I'm following the severe service recommendations due to a lot of short trip driving during the week.
