What I did was buy some outdoor vinyl from a sign shop for just a few bucks and cut it into 4 pieces, stick one piece to each letter and carefully with a sharp razor blade or exacto knife trim the vinyl to the outside edge of each letter.

^^ you did an excellent job, but I'm one of those guys that had trouble coloring inside the lines.
