Looking into purchased GEN2 with about 50K Miles.... Any input that might be helpful with this cold start "clink" on 1st start up?

Thanks for your input GEN2 Owners regarding purchasing used GEN2

Sounds like something clanking against the turbo inlet pipes. Def not the timing chain rattle.

That single “clink” sound is the flywheel ring gear throwing the starter drive out of engagement. It means everything is clean and dry in that area as it should be. It all sounds normal to me. It does have the later ‘19+ engine cover, but it’s just for measured sound reduction as every sound is picked up by external microphones during EPA certification. “Noise” is a measured “emission”.

My 2018 sounds the same when doing a cold start. I have a buddy that has a 2019 Lariat and it sounds similar. I think it is just the ecoboost engine. Either that or we are all headed toward some sort of cataclysmic engine failure.....I joke!

I came across one that was 2017 for $46K with Ford ESP Powertrain Warranty(Extra 3 years upon purchase) at 61K Miles On Ite it was off market.

Do you think that was a good deal? How does reselling look on these?

This would be my 1st one and trying to make smart call. Appreciate your advice.

Nobody can tell you if it’s a good deal without any background on the vehicle. Is the CarFax clean? Does it have full maintenance records since new? Was there ever undisclosed damage? Was it used for competition or high performance off-road driving? Is it modified? Was it ever ran low on oil? Was the coolant flushed/changed at the required 5 year interval? Have the differential, T-case, and transmission fluids been changed? How was it driven/treated by the previous owner(s)?

The warranty doesn’t cover issues caused by any of the possible conditions listed above.

You should be in the prospective Raptor owners sub forum, where you would find

I know there are some on FRF who simply do not care, but, IMHO you absolutely MUST go hands on before buying a Raptor -new or used. Ford makes boat loads, train loads and more of trucks every year. They have some awesome QA 98% of the time but that other 2%, some real doozies can slip through.

As you’re seeing now at 46k for a 7 year old truck, that is not bad resale.
If the ESP is important to you the 2 biggest things to look for are
1) a software or hardware power adder - a tune or boost controller. The stealership can check for this.
2) a suspension lift, level or an abundance of aftermarket suspension components.

If you have some kind of major powertrain issue you will get a rude shock when the ESP denies coverage. Even if the sales staff tells you “it will be covered anyway”, it won’t.
Now, the ESP would still over other things - the expensive stocks LED lights if it has that coverage, moon roof, sync system, etc.
