That’s right so true. They left so much power on the table, only really because the smog numbers.

So how the hell is FCA getting away with pumping out all those Hemi’s, N/A and Supercharged and keeping it in smog spec?

Does the “Gas Guzzler Tax” on some of the SRT models offset the smog specs?

Nope, in CA that’s the penalty you pay for not driving a “green” car.

Cafe is Corporate Average Fuel Economy...it is the composite average of all the different models of cars you sell. Completely unrelated to after market tunes, and Gas Guzzler tax. (At least in Ca)

This explains how Cafe works, and might give a little insight how Chrysler can sell the hellcat.

Also explains how any car with less that 22.5 MPG average gets hit with Gas Guzzler.

shoebox economy cars put your safety at risk as an operator or passenger. We should implement a shoebox-peasant-car tax in place of the so called gas guzzler tax. We would save literally thousands of lives on the roads per year by phasing out the tiny shoebox cars.

Yep...Although the Autobahn now has a lot more restrictions than it use to, there is a reason they used to be able to go nuts and the highway death rate was much lower than the US. (It goes a lot deeper that just vehicle construction, but that was a significant part of it.)
