This is in relation only to Folsom Lake Ford Service department. I have not had any issues with Folsom Lake Ford Fleet Service and Repair.
At 135K My 2018 Raptor started making the classic cam phaser rattle—nothing dramatic, just its way of saying, "Hey, I’m special!" Other than that, it ran like a dream. At about 155K, the rattle began to get worse and the engine threw 2 codes saying that the cam phasers were not syncing up. Other than that, still running great. But...just in case, I had it towed, rather than keep driving it.
Took it to Folsom Lake Ford Service for a fix, got a $4,500 quote. Cool, that's fair. Then, a few hours later, I get the call: "Sooo… we pulled the oil filter and, uh, surprise! You actually need a whole new engine. That’ll be $14,500!"
Seemed a little extreme, so I sent my oil to Blackstone Labs for a second opinion. Turns out? Engine was totally fine—no undue metal, no issues, just exactly what they'd expect from an engine with 5000 miles on the oil.
Are they crooks or just inept? I don't really see a third option. A $10K miss, is pretty far off target.
If I hadn’t double-checked, I’d be out $10K and a whole lot of tears. So, let’s just say… I wouldn’t exactly recommend them.
