its most likely a government thing. a thermal camera is a very restricted item due to the nature of its use in combat. however infrared doesnt require it.

The quality of thermal one would want in a truck would take very deep pockets.....like over $10gs; just to get one's foot in the door.

It's simply not realistic for 99.99 % of the Raptor owners out there. A quality, useable thermal at speed would be closer to $50g's. At least military grade stuff. Ask me how I know.

Seeing how my Family's Business has multiple FLIR cameras and have FLIR certification I know they do not require a background check. But they do sell items that are ITAR controlled so no bringing them out of the US or selling outside the US without approval of the Government.

While FLIR is cool the cost and sensitivity of the units would lead me to not put one as an installed item on my truck. I have flirted with the idea of the FLIR scope mounted unit for the rifle but think I will stick with NV.

maybe that was it. i remembered something about not leaving the states, but someone also mentioned the use of background checks for certain cameras. i will have to look into it.
