I was a lot boy at a dealership when it blew. It took a couple of hours for the ash to reach us. Within a few minutes day turned into night. It was crazy. The town I was in was not in the direct path yet we still received several inches of ash. Cleaning all the dealership's inventory of cars was a nightmare.

Thanks a lot guys!

Tha second to last photo, if you look again, shows a lot of reflection from the road surface. I found out it was solid ice, as it should have been at 14 degrees ambient, when I stepped out to take the pic I and fell flat on my ass, stood up and proceeded to slide down the road in an atempt get my last shot.
We had a lot of fun that day and plan more outings like it in the near future.

Again, great forum and a great community here. I'm glad to be a part of it.

Haaaa!!! That's hilarious!

We're glad to have you here too Pepper! This forum really is quickly turning into the most fun forum I've ever been a part of, and it's all because of the collection of great people here.

One day I asked Peppercorn where his name came from because I dig it. He said he has a dog named Pepper who munches on corn cobs. :)

Hey Pep, I'm curious as to why you chose to post this thread in the new member section? At 70+ posts, you're not a new guy anymore.
Do you want to keep this thread here, or do you want us to move it to the Member's Photos section? We'll leave it up to you Bro.

I was a kid on a farm in Idaho when the mountain blew, it created some of the most amazing Mars-like skys I've seen anywhere, other than sci-fi movies.

It does look pretty cool there.
I have a conference in April in Reno, NV and I plan to drive down from here. On the way back, I was considering coming up 'the ocean side' of the rocks and spending a few extra days touring around. I'll probably touch base with you once we're closer to April.

Definately do, there is a really amazing area down in the SE corner of Oregon, close to Nevada that would blow your mind and is perfect for Raptoring. I did a trip with my son 2 years ago, all off road, Oregon, Northern Nevada and into Idaho. One day we traveled about 250miles with lots of stops, never encountered another human being.

Taken near the center of the Alvord Desert, SE Oregon. It's a dry lake bed approximately 12 by 6 miles.

Bo...I'll admit they look great, problem is you just can't see them. ;-)

Pepper...awesome shots! Thanks for sharing another beautiful area of the good 'ol USA. Even the dog shot is a huge winner.
