Turns out a city tow truck driver tried to put the trans into N by unhooking the harness and moving the linkage by hand. I knew the shifter felt a little light! Good to know for others in the future...

Whoa, a city tow truck driver disabled your trucK? I'd say that he far overstepped whatever authority a tow truck driver might have by crawling under your truck and mechanically monkeying with it. I'd be writing a letter to the mayor.

Soooooo.....what was the problem with the truck? Was the linkage already disconnected before the tow truck got there or did the tow truck driver do that?
