Tell me about it. It wasn't too bad with my 40 series. But it was way worse this time with the magnapack.

I don't think its 3 inch. Its the same size that the cats are on. Its bigger than the muffler pipe. I think 2.75

Mine is 1ea. 3 inch in and 2 ea. 2.5 out just as OEM was. The first time the guy just coned down the 3 inch adapter pipe he made and stuffed it into the OEM from the Resinator back which took the ID down to about 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 ID. in a few spots. The truck had lots of low grunt but it gave me a few flat spots at full throttle at like around 4500 to 5500 rpm. I had him re do it by not allowing ANY down sizing of the OEM size and it did change the sound some, made it quieter but gave me back a nice smooth rpm curve and NO FLAT SPOTS. This is without any tuner stuff.

Hard to say. Everybody has different preferences but i will try to compare them objectively. Both of them are nice though. I had both of them dumped in the same spot. The 40 was si/do. The magnapack is si/so.

Volume: 40 is louder at idle but the magnapack is louder under heavy accel.

Characteristic: the 40 is a nicer smoother sound. The magnapack is a nastier grittier sound.

Performance: the magnapack has slightly better performance than the 40. More response in the peddle. But not by much, could easily be made up in driver skill

Uniqueness: the 40 is very popular. this means many people have similar exhaust tones. the magnapack is less popular, therefore less trucks sound like mine. (varies by location)

FWIW i prefer the magnapack

For anyone wondering, the stock stainless tips are 409. It won't polish up like 304 does.

You can put a satin-sheen on them by wetsanding them with 600-grit, then 800, then a green scotchbrite with Cameo cleaner/paste. This will put a nice low-luster sheen on them and brighten them up. As long as you go in a radial pattern around them they will look real nice.
