Elk hunters or 15 more inches for hunting.

Are any of you raptor owners Elk hunters? I'm really wondering if you feel you need a bigger bed. I'm not throwing spears at all. I'm serious. I love the raptor, I want one , I can afford one but the ONLY thing causing me hesitation is bed length, not load capacity or anything else to do with towing, just bed length.

You don't need to be a elk hunter to chime in on this one, but I'm a hunter and Elk are big animals as well as all the gear that goes along with hunting in the northwest. I know the Raptor would do great in all other respects as far as being reliable, and very capable off-road.

For all hunters out there driving Raptors..are you happy?
What say you ?

Obvioisly you are not throwing an entire elk into the back of the truck. I have had 2 whitetails in the bed of my truck at the same time, to give you an idea of what can fit. I don't think you will have a problem unless you plan on mounting your spare tire back there.

No not putting it in whole, but quartered up and usually have a pile of gear .

fyi, the Raptor bed load is only 1,000 pounds or so, dependent on SCrew / SCab.

Just take a trailer?

I wish I could be lucky enough to get an elk in a location that allows it to be packed out whole. But yeah, quartered is probably going to be required, unless it's one of those Florida elk.

Tight fit to be sure. I've seen 8ft one tons with trailers that didn't have room for meat. The way I hunt the raptor is fine.

Payload rating (which are pretty conservative) on a SCab is 980# (so figure 1200#) and SCrew is rated at 1,180# (so figure 1400#). I've had well over 2000# in the bed of my '11 FX4 5.0 SCab (which is only rated at 1,830#) and it didn't even flinch.
