Not sure if this has been covered yet, but instead of doing the third setting and drop shackles, I would highly recommend the Timbren SES kit. I ran it while towing 7500lbs to Georgia and back to Ohio. They did the job flawlessly.I’m thinking about the third setting with a drop shackle for the added weight capacity (but I don’t want it to ride like 1Ton either), and thinking about setting 2 with standard length shackle. I’ll probably start with level 2 and see how it does with the trailer and if needed I’ll add the leaf back in for option three, order new u-bolts and a drop shackle, and get limit straps (haven’t looked for these yet).
Like you said that’s the beauty of the Icon, you can change it.
It’s an enclosed trailer insulated and has a 40k BTU furnace, 4200lbs dry. Side by side is 2300 loaded for a trip plus other gear in the trailer. I have a picture with stock suspension and trailer hooked up, not sure I’m brave enough to post it on here though.
Eibach and Geiser springs are front replacements for the factory coilovers. Eibach is linear while geiser is progressive similar to factory. Both do the same job of lifting the truck, but the Geisers get smoother as they compress off road while the Eibachs stay at the same spring rate as they compress. So i have been following this thread and the references to Eibach Springs, Geisers, Deavers and Icons. Can someone help me understand the differences? I know I am opening myself up to criticism here but I'm a Newb when it comes this stuff but I wanna learn which is why I love this forum.
Hoping to the proud owner of new Raptor soon. Mine will likely be a pavement princess since there are limited off road options here in DC/MD/VA. However I love driving, don't mind long distance and I am exited to travel and join some of the events I see offered on this site. When I do get mine I want a smooth ride and the rear to be planted.
I plan to start with the second setting on the Icons and a new heavier duty shackle factory length to begin with. I do use a set of the super sumos when towing. Not sure if this has been covered yet, but instead of doing the third setting and drop shackles, I would highly recommend the Timbren SES kit. I wouldn't recommend the drop shackles just because as others have stated your limiting factor will be the shocks, brake lines, ABS lines, etc.
I think the Camburg ones are the best as far as a stock length shackle goes. You could get the TIG versions if you want really pretty welds and a better coating, but the MIGs are perfectly fine too. Both are much stronger than the factory cast shackles.I plan to start with the second setting on the Icons and a new heavier duty shackle factory length to begin with. Edit 2 min after first post: I’ve been looking at the Camburg MIG shackles, are there any others worth a look?
Is that what you used? Everyone keeps saying you need something strong to compress the Eibach, I used to just pull them off and take them to a local guy and he’d swap the springs with the understanding I’d bring it to him for alignment. I’ve moved since then haven’t found a good place to make the same deal.Don't forget this style as well: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002SRHU6/?tag=fordraptorforum-20
