Just installed an E&G one this afternoon. Do yourself a favor, pick up some 1/4"x20 2" bolts. The 1.5" ones that it comes with will fight you and are just a hair too short. 2" reaches just fine.

I second bwdilli. I struggled to get the bolts to grab the nuts on the metal plate. And one more tip - don't tighten any of the bolts until you have all of them slightly threaded.

The locked portion will definitely hold a gun. As far as the wife's purse, it'll depend on how big of a purse she's carrying that day. The safe takes up exactly half of the inner console, so if the purse can get past the lip of the safe, the secured space is effectively half of the inside of the console.

Finally installed mine last night. Very well made product and the fit is excellent. Follow the instructions and the install is a breeze. I agree with the others that 2.0" long bolts will make it much easier.
