GEN 1 Driving Cross-Country in a newly bought Raptor: Fuse 27 question

Hi all!
I’m checking out a 2013 Raptor from a dealer out of state halfway across the country (exact specs I want + good price) and after I check it out I plan on driving it home nearly 1,500 miles.

The trucks are built well, but my only concern is the infamous Fuse 27... I don’t want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere! So I have a couple questions:

1. How can I check to see if the Fuse 27 mod has been done? Since I’m buying from a dealer I doubt service records will be available.

2. If it hasn’t been done, how can I protect myself from being stranded? I don’t have time to buy and install the proper kit but I am handy and can dig around in the fuse box if needed. Is it as easy as carrying a couple extra 20A fuses to replace if necessary? Do I need any tools to replace it?

If the dealer did it there should be a sticker in the fuse box lid saying that #70 is now the fuel pump fuse. Just pop the cover and look. If #27 is filled, it hasnt been done.

A dealer should be able to do the fix in about an hour or two. It’s a well known issue and there’s a service bulletin on it.

I would ask the dealer to do it before you pick it up

As a side note, when you are looking the truck over before taking it off the dealer lot, take a look at the #27 fuse and slot. If there is any damage, have them repir it before you sign the paperwork.

BTW, I went 90,000 miles before doing mine...showed zero signs of damage.

My '13 had 152k miles on it when I bought it and it hadn't been done, I put a couple thousand more on it before I finally did it myself. Ideally it's already been done (or will be by the time you get there), as stated above there should be a sticker saying it's #70 and #27 should be empty.


But if not you could just have a couple of those 20A micro or whatever the hell they are (the blades don't stick out the bottom) fuses in your glovebox just in case...and get it done ASAP.

Thank you all for the help... I’ll check for the sticker to see if it’s there but if not I’ll grab some extra fuses! The dealer isn’t a ford dealer so I’m hesitant to have them do it.

Once fuse slot #27 is damaged it’s not likely that you’ll be able to just stick a new fuse in it and go. The damage burns the #27 slot and wires and I wasn’t able to just stick a new fuse it.

I have a 2013 Roush Screw with 103k miles on it and haven’t had an issue with Fuse 27 nor have I performed the mod.

Just a point of reference.
