I have about 4k miles on my truck and have started noticing a rattle type noise near my drivers door from the actual door lock itself. Not the button to lock and unlock but the actuator near my left should. Almost as if its glue breaking apart which I doubt there is any glue in that area. Wanted to know if anyone has run across this and if there is a fix for it.

It is possible that the door lock rod is rattling against the metal door skin. When you take your door panel off, there is a (usually square) hole where the lock rod comes through. My old truck had a foam block that was in there to eliminate the noise, but that fell off over time. I then added foam tape around the hole so the lock rod could not hit any metal and the noise was no longer present.

I would take my door panel off and take a picture but it is about 19 degrees in my garage at the moment (door was opened for the other car) and plastics are not fun when its that cold.

Hi cpetes,

This sounds like a good mystery for your dealership to solve. I'll get your regional customer service manager on the case as well; PM me your details and I'll make it happen. Be sure to include your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership.

Here is what i was talking about. The little yellow clip that holds the lock rod can vibrate. I strategically placed (blue) electrical tape to silence any noises from the rod moving in the yellow clip.
