if you rent the spring compressor from Auto Zone make sure you get 2 of them because 1 just doesn't cut it

Now this is the advise I was looking for. Thanks Bird! Saved me some aggravation probably. Is it because they are to small or what?

Yeah if u use one it will start to bend and will only compress half (lengthwise) of the spring. I used the second one on the other side and slightly offset to get more of a grab. I recommend using ratchet straps as a safety net too in case one of the compressors snaps. Mine looked like boomerangs fully tightened

Edit* I used 3 of them now that i remember. rented 2 sets - 2 each

When you pick up the spring compressor, you need the McPherson Strut Spring Compressor NOT the Coil Spring Compressor. I had to go back and get the right tool.

Coil springs are compressed from the inside, while our coil overs / strut springs are compressed from the outside.

This is what you need:

good call Joker. they do stock 2 types at Auto Zone and those are the ones. and also note that our springs are too big for the retaining pins.

I do have some advice when you are ready to pull the shock out get a strap and make a loop out of it to use your foot to push down and get enough drop so the shock will come out. Mine was a PITA before i did that.

Got any pics or crude drawings of this?

I have some harbor freight compressors and I wasn't willing to pull the strut mount bolt off with just those holding it. I went to autozone and rented another pair and use 3 total as well.

Took about 2 hours.

No I don't. Had my hands and feet full doing it by myself. But you just pretty much need to push or pull the LCA down enough to slip back in the shock/spring assembly. There just isn't enough room if you dont at least with my truck.
