Actually, too much can hurt. It can cause foaming and lead to overheating. The “burp valve “ is to allow air, which expands a lot when heated, to escape. Without it, the diff would pressure up when it gets warm and potentially push oil out of the pinion or axle seals.

exactly so you fill it to the 2nd hole

For F’s sake it’s meant to hold more capacity that’s the F’n point!!

but...yes you’re correct you don’t wanna overfill, but that’s also part of the benefit of the ford performance cover allows you to “see” exactly where the fluid level is

i guess I was being too nonchalant w/ advise to “fill it up” & I know all about blow axle seals have already been there done that w/ getrag diff in corvette. Common I guess.

I don’t get Ford going w/ a diff cover you gotta remove to swap fluid. Especially on an uber performance offroad truck w/ 4.10s lol!!!

I got the ford factory performance diff cover. My truck isn’t lifted. Everything I read says to fill to the bottom fill hole and to use the top hole of truck is lifted more than 2”.

This is actually a partially incorrect statement. After you became so insistent it was meant for more capacity, which would be great if true, I did a little more research. Unfortunately for a standard height Raptor, it is stock capacity.

Top hole for 2” lift or more to compensate for pinion angle. I think the link pretty much explains the actual benefit of changing the cover, which is the bottom drain plug, (which you mention above) and the stronger design.

Anyone ever make a purchase from Vivid Racing?

They have them for $203.xx
They’re a huge reseller drop-shipper. I wouldn’t worry. They’ve been around for decades

Reading the description of the cover, it talks about lowering your rear not lifting. This is a Ford performance part which are usually geared towards street/track racing. This diff has been in almost every ford produced, and the raptor is a fairly new dor Ford to get into off road racing.

Makes me wonder if top hole is correct and lower hole is for lowered vehicles. ‍♂️

What you should do is measure how much fluid comes out of your factory diff, and then put that much back in and see what level that fills to.

Also...you could just read the manual which says 5.5 quarts of 75w-140 (2013, but all the same I believe).
5.5 quarts sounds like a lot, don't think theres enough space for that much liquid.

Well that’s what we asked originally and unless I missed it, you failed to elaborate your truck was lifted. Essential we’ve been arguing about the same point. Lol....top hole lifted, bottom hole stock.
