Hey guys, Nick from Apicella Auto Sound and ResoNix Sound Solutions here. At Apicella Auto Sound, we specialize in high end, sound quality oriented systems. ResoNix Sound Solutions, my other company, is a performance-focused automotive sound treatment company. I'd be willing to bet you will not find another CLD that can outperform our Squares and a CCF that can outperform our FD1 (soon to be Decoupler 65). When it comes to sound quality, we have a standard that is frankly, higher than just about anyone in the industry. I have been designing, fabricating, and installing these types of systems for years, and am pretty well known in my industry for it. Amantay came to us looking for a badass sound system. We started off with Focal Utopia M speakers all around, and Mosconi Pro amplifiers with a Helix DSP Ultra. Once we realized that this was overkill for what he was looking for, we ended up with...
. Nav-TV interface
. Helix V Twelve processed amplifier with a Director
. Helix M One X mono amplifier
. (2) Audiofrog GB12 subwoofers in an MTI stage 3 enclosure
. Audiofrog GB60s for front doors, treated with ResoNix Squares and FD1
. Audiofrog GB25 in the pillars
. Audiofrog GB10 in the sail panels
. Audiofrog GB25 & GB10 in a custom center channel (i put 2 pairs of GB25's on the estimate just so I didn't have to create a custom SKU for single units)
. Audiofrog GS62 coaxials for rear doors
At the end of the day, with our knowledge and abilities in high-end installation and tuning techniques, this will be an exceptional sounding car, that will not only sound good for the driver but will sound equally as good in the passenger seats due to the Helix V Twelve having an upmixer for the center channel. Most audio shops cant properly tune a single-seat car, two-seat with an upmixer is exponentially more difficult, but we have the ability to do it properly. The reason we are doing said center channel is because he mentioned that he cares about how it sounds for the passengers, not just himself. When you do a standard install, you can only tune for one location in the car due to different path length differences between the speakers. An upmixer negates the need for that and you can get your imaging/soundstage from the upmixer sending different signals to different speakers as opposed to a traditional Stereo signal and how that works (look up the patent for Stereo audio if you want to understand that). The floor and back wall near his sub enclosure will also be treated with ResoNix Squares and FD1/FD2. This is not even on his estimate. It's just something we do.
Now, this is to
@The Car Stereo Company .. Cool to see another stereo shop trying to help out hobbyists. Its something that is usually not done in our industry. That said, I see your comments about Audiofrog being a new company, 3 way active being complicated, and lifting the seats.
1) Audiofrog, while relatively new, has been in business for something like 7 years now. Not only that, but it was started, and owned/operated by Andy Wehmeyer. Andy has about 35-40 years of car audio industry experience under his belt, and about 20 of those years were at a product development position at Harmon Kardon. He alone is probably the most experienced person in our industry (aftermarket car audio) when you stack everything up. Audiofrog is a brand that is beyond what has been offered elsewhere and has the support/knowhow behind it to back it. They're also priced extremely well relatively speaking
2) 3 way active setups are not hard to tune. They're actually easier than a 2-way front speaker setup believe it or not (I'm not sure what your experience is with tuning, so forgive me if I sound like I'm talking down). 3 way is easier to tune due to each speaker being able to play a smaller bandwidth that is better suited towards the polar response of the speaker, and the location and its transfer function inside the vehicle. Yes, there are more channels to go through, but they're much easier since they're not playing such a wide bandwidth like a 6" mid-woofer low in the door of a two-way setup would. Those are always a pain to tune properly due to, as I said, the location, the bandwidth, and the polar response of the speaker.
3) The seat lift does not hinder anything. Just raises it about 2". This also has zero effect on the performance of the subs, which I cannot tell if you are implying or not. The wavelengths of those frequencies are just way too long to be affected by a change that small.
If anyone has any questions regarding this system or a system like it, feel free to ask away, and if you would like to check out our previous work, check our website or facebook.
