I've hauled a lot of cargo with this great truck but a Marlin trophy mount; definitely a first!

I was getting ready for work this morning and after asking Alexa to start my truck using ford pass it struck me how convenient, but creepy that is... I wonder if it would be possible to "hack" into my truck and do whatever someone wanted against the operators will?

Is there a certain fuse we could pull to disable this modem and any other GPS, or ways of being tracked?

60 mins did a story where they gave 2 hackers 3 hours to try to hack into jeep compass and they succeeded. Once in, they were able to apply the brakes and even the throttle. So yes, it could be done.

BTW .. how did you get alexa to start your car?

Set up your ford pass app on your phone and then download the ford pass skill to Alexa and follow the directions in the app ! Works like a charm when your running around getting ready to leave in the morning and want your truck toasty by the time you step outside !

I've used Alexa to play music and it's nice when it's working, but it randomly disconnects on me.

And randomly listens to you
Actually, not random listening at all, Alexa is constantly listening and apparently recording as her records have been previously subpoenaed for court in a murder case.
Test her out in another room and see how good her "ears" are, she hears alot.

Yup that what I was getting at. You are paying to install a device to spy on you

Us common-sensers pay to install a device as a convenience, and have the sense to not say incriminating things in front of an object that you wholly control.

Getting ready to talk about something confidential? There's this cord that comes out of Alexa - If you unplug it, she cant listen. :)

I'll go this route: I highly doubt any "hacker" can crack any random vehicle that has the hardware that "could allow" access while going down the road. With that I state they would need more than a few seconds to breach the connection, hack the firmware, etc etc etc...take control of whatever whatever.

With that said: Give them access to a vehicle (say in a garage/lot) and the TIME to work thru the systems, learn the subroutines, etc etc etc.....YES, the possibility can go up that while driving they MIGHT be able to hack your vehicle. That would still require them to have previous knowledge of the systems, and YOUR specific vehicle.

So if you leave a door open, people will come in. Leave the interior doors all open, people will go into the different rooms. Shut the doors, provide no access guess what they move on.

The worst part of this is Ford should provide you a way to power off the modem/cell device when not in use or under contract.

Alexa isn't that different than a DashCam that records when the vehicle is off. Yes, it's recording 15-30 seconds and then overwriting the data using very little from the truck battery. When any event happens say bumping the car the system "wakes" up to record the event in pre-determined lengths. For Alexa that means it wakes to record your voice commands and takes actions.
