Thinking about getting this guy

Amazon.com : BlackVue Wi-Fi 2 Channel DR550GW-2CH 32GB, Car Black Box/Car DVR Recorder with Power Magic Pro : Vehicle Backup Cameras : Car Electronics

Pricey but I do like the extra features on it. I'm probably going to wire it to one of my AUX switches ( master switch in case ya know, I need to kidnap someone ).

My only question right now is how I'm going to wire the rear camera.. :hmm:

I just got the BlackVue Wi-Fi 2 Channel DR650GW-2CH 64GB with the power magic for Xmas but haven't installed it yet. Both the 550 and 650 have great reviews on blackboxmycar.com

That's the exact same one I want to get for my truck! Main reason being the whole shock sensor/camera automatically turning on if some ass hat huts your truck at night while parked and drives off. (Happened to me three times in the last two years) Please do a write up on your install... Can't wait to see how it turns out!

BlackVue is generally the best

for those of you who want a more affordable option, the dash cam forums found that the G1W family of cameras is one of the best "bang for the buck" cams out there.

http://dashcamtalk.com/forum/link-forums/dash-cam-comparison.42/

$53-65 depending on which version you get - normal vs extended battery vs super wide angle vs capacitor-based.

The black capacitor version just came back in stock today. The "-C" on the means that it has a capacitor rather than the standard battery. The batteries are known to be flakey, not holding a charge well, dying in hot weather/sun, and replacing them can be a bitch. You can still get the battery-backed ones, though, if you wish.

Details on the G1W and it's version (capacitor, bigger battery, super wide view, etc):

I run 2 of them in cars I lease out to employees, just as insurance in case I need it for insurance. They're super cheap, and once you have them in they have been pretty rock solid reliable for me

Blackvue DR550W 2 chan.

I've had the Blackvue with the Power Magic Pro battery discharge preventer for over a year now. When the truck battery is fully charged, the cameras will stay on for up to six hours. While it does provide good protection , it is definatly not 24 hour video surveillance.

Had the DR650-2CH hardwired in for about a month. Generally speaking, recording quality is good but too dark at night. Waiting for the custom firmware to come out...

Magic pro is must have. The cam kills the battery very fast.

Another great reason to get a dashcam is so when you take your truck to get serviced, you can review the footage later to make sure they didn't take it out for a wild test drive or anything else stupid.
