First off, if you’re going through the trouble of getting a dash cam, do it right. The parking mode is a great feature and I’d highly suggest that you use it.

Don’t hook these up to your aux switches. Go straight to the fusebox. Use an add a circuit, which gives you a protected circuit with no wiring issues or need to cut wiring.

I use the 2ch 4k VIOFO camera, and it’s fantastic. Blackvue and Thinkware are also solid options.
Why not use AUX 6? I feel like that’s more the way it’s intended than add a fuse. The parking mode kit has a fuse in it.

the parking mode wire has a fuse because its designed to have a constant power source. when the vehicle is turned off the camera shuts off. with parking mode, it goes to a reduced power state and wakes up when detecting movement. most cameras now record all the time but due to the low power state wont save until it detects movement, and most cameras will save 20seconds prior to the trigger. only available if the parking mode wire is connected. which is a constant power connection

IIRC the parking mode kit paperwork said it will remain running all the time, not reduced power, until the vehicles battery reaches a preset (by a switch on the device) amperage so it doesn't drain it too low. This is at least the Garmin parking mode kit, no idea with others.

sounds right. never dealt with garmin dash cams. but the issue still remains, connecting to an aux switch will cut power. so the other wire still needs to be connected to constant power

Ya, I realize that’s a downfall but 2 out of 3 days my truck is in a garage so I’m not too worried about recording while I’m away from the vehicle. I prefer not messing with fuse boxes and using the aux is the cleanest solution.

I am running a Blackvue 970 LTE with a backup batteries. Camera is powered by the batteries and the batteries are powered\charged by the the fuse box in the passenger footwell when the truck is on. I work night and my truck sits in the parking lot of the hanger I work in. With this setup I can live view the cameras and get notification Via my cell if anything triggers the cameras. With the Blackvue App.
