All,

Just curious as to a creaking sound I've been hearing. I've never owned a truck before and have only had my 2010 SCAB for about a month now. Whenever I pull up my driveway or go up a hill, the back shocks I think or something creaks... Is this normal? My truck is under warranty until October or 4k more miles. Thanks for any and all help!

It is most likely the leaf springs. It is fairly common on leaf sprung trucks. The way to fix it is to jack up the truck, support the frame and let the axle hang down at full droop. Then you can lubricate the spring pads near the tips of the leaves.

Thanks for the responses. I wanted to ask a couple more things, first off how bad is yours? Mine is very minor and so far have only noticed it pulling up the driveway. Is it covered by warranty?

Mine are aftermarket, but they creaked too. I left her on the ground and just shot the shackles and spring pads/tips with a good penetrating oil (Kroil) and haven't heard anything in the past 20k miles.

It is common with all leaf sprung vehicles like stated above. Your Ford dealer (depending on how that particular dealer operates) may grease it up for you since you DID purchase a $40+K truck from them and the fix doesn't cost much and wouldn't take them but a few minutes to complete.

As for what to use, any lythium or axle grease should work, but it needs to be in a form that can be sprayed or "squeezed in" so to speak so get inside the bushings good. Once greased, depending on the quality of the product used to grease it, it shouldn't need it more than once a year or so.

Been chasing squeaks and other assorted noises today. Found this little "rattler" after greasing my leafs. It was barely hanging on making all kinds of noise driving down the road.
