ADM’s should be outlawed by Ford‘s head office. They should tell all dealers NO ADM!
What if I have a boat load of money and I’m willing to pay more than you to get the truck I want now? ADM allows this to happen by controlling demand during periods of supply is constraint; this is similar to pretty much any other unregulated scarce resource. Fine art, concert tickets, Bitcoin, stocks, lumber, gasoline, etc etc

This model is changing though. I remember when the dealer invoice was an unknown quantity, and customers couldn't use that for bargaining. Now it's well known and used all the time. And more importantly, the internet has made it possible for customers to show outside their local area much easier.
Very true. But if you knew where to look and owned a phone, it wasn't that bad. I haven't bought a car in person since 1985.

You said 'unregulated scarce resource'...then listed some regulated markets, some of them not all that scarce. Works of art are generally sold in auctions, and are unique. Concert tickets are sold at a set price, it's the secondary market where the prices will vary. Bitcoin, don't know about. Stocks are definitely regulated. Although the price changes constantly, they are controlled through exchanges. You aren't going to get a different price using a different broker. Lumber and gasoline are commodities and not really that scarce.

I get what you're saying, but I don't think you picked the right markets for comparison. And honestly, I'm not sure we want a market where the trucks go to those with the most disposable income first. Maybe we do. I am content to let those willing to take deals I won't get theirs's first.

I will drive on leafs and deal with the 8” screen until maybe a Gen 3 can be had at invoice and if I choose to go this route in the future. I like a refined truck with the shakedown already happened.

Not true. Ford can and should crack down on ADM.

Preventing price-gouging and controlling your brand is not socialism.

Think about when a new gaming console is released, or about the hot Christmas toy. Can Best Buy unilaterally decide to mark up a Playstation 25% over MSRP just because it's in demand? No, they cannot, because Sony will not let them.

ADMs almost certainly cost Ford money, too.

Let's say a Raptor costs 100k, and at that price, 10 people want to buy one. Gross margins vary by manufacturer, but 10% is a good number - so Ford makes 10k per Raptor sold. The dealer makes 5k.

At the 100k price, if 10 people buy it:

Ford profit = 10k x 10 = 100k

Dealer profit = 5k x 10 = 50k

Now... imagine the dealer puts an ADM of 10k. At that price, only 5 people want to buy the truck.

Ford profit = 10k x 5 = 50k

Dealer profit = 15k x 5 = 75k

See the difference?

Granted, this is a very simplistic scenario, but the point is that controlling ADM is NOT socialism, and may even be a benefit to Ford.

well said. People throw out that word socialism while collecting their social security checks and Medicaid.

I'm sorry, I really don't mean to offend anyone, but if you pay 20K ADM for a truck, you are simply intellectually limited. The vehicle loses all of that value (and then some) when you drive it off the lot. Raptors themselves retain value very nicely, as we've seen. But god, if you are willing to slap 20K on the table, no matter what your bank account looks like, just to drive this truck a little earlier, you are just simply daft to borrow a phrase from our neighbors across the pond.

You could pay a kid $500 to call every Ford dealer in your surrounding states until you find one at MSRP. I bet if a kid posted here offering that service someone would take him up on it.

Haha...that might work. Kids these days have nothing to do anyway. Solid call...

I manage to find a dealer and left $1k deposit to be on their list (6th) at MSRP. They already had all paper in writing to sign about the deposit, MSRP for the raptor.
Good luck everyone!
