Not just in this truck, but in our explorer sport. the 3.5 ecoboost is tuned to be very lean cruising at 65ph. I have 150,000 miles of experience with this motor.....MPG falls off a cliff right around 66 mph.

I also see that happen... now that I reread what he originally posted. I concur that 65 is the optimal.

That is the deal right there. I can get 20mpg setting the cruise at 65mph on flat ground. As soon as you go to 66mph and higher, this truck starts to use boost and fuel like a ****** uses birth control.

Setting the cruise at 67mph drops the MPGs down to 16 real quick.

I always use premium, so have no comment on cheaper gas giving lower economy, but that has always been my belief.
Yes....I have noticed the same thing....at 1,500 rpms and lower the truck is very fuel efficient.

Regardless, I saw Costco gas in MD for 2.13 for 87... and like... 2.43 for the good stuff.

Wild prices!

I like the comparison.. I don’t have a Raptor, just a standard 3.5 EcoBoost F150 and I just started using the Costco 93 and have noticed a difference from the Costco 87.

don’t forget the 4% cash back on the Costco Citicard.

So it can't maintain 70 MPH on flat ground without boost?

A 3.5L engine can easily make 200+ HP without boost and it takes maybe 40 to 50 HP (if that?) to maintain 70 MPH on flat ground. That just makes no sense unless Ford is closing the wastegate under what would normally be a vacuum condition to help fight the turbo lag?

I guess at some point the big tires and a large frontal area would make the little 213 cu-in turbo V6 could feel really laggy at high speeds if it wasn't basically in boost and ready to go at all times.

I'd like to see a datalog of increasing speed vs the MAP sensor readings on flat ground to see exactly what if anything Ford is doing with it.

I am currently at 18.3 mpg and I use Costco premium. In VA. it is 93 octane.
I saw little if any difference in mileage with either Shell 93 / Exon.

agreed on the data log. I am just going off of my experience with the 3.5 EB motor in 4 different cars now. 13 -SHO, 14 ex-sport, 18 ex-sport, 18 -raptor

when you have the instantaneous economy up, you see it drop like a rock as you bump the speed up from 65mph when using cruise. Couple that with the boost gauge in the raptor. as you bump up the mph, you see the boost start to come on.
