I speak with a lot of experience on the Raptor platform and tuning. The reality is that without transmission tuning, a lot of the extra power gets lost in the slop.

If you line up next to a bone stock Raptor, I guarantee your tune will see you leave it behind by a few lengths down a stretch. It’s just hard to get everything out of it.

You’ll get more satisfaction out of your tune in tow mode. Try it. You’ll see.

How much will the TCM tuning cost?

Any of the modes work as they do with MPT?

Any tow tune like MPT?

Currently no tow mode. It’s recommended to go back to Stage 0 as per Cobb. It’s been mentioned several times.

What does putting it in tow mode do that would make the difference?

If it’s anything like the 3/4 diesel trucks..... it locks the torque converter. Prevents slip and premature wear. Also prevents gear hunting.

Always drove my tuned diesels in tow haul.

OK, the ECU is adapting. Especially in the mid to high rpm range, my truck is a beast now. And still with excellent smoothness of delivery. It almost feels like I swapped my engine out with a higher output engine. I was driving around tonight with a stupid grin on my face like I had the day I bought the truck. The JB4 piggyback tune I had before was good, but this is on another level. Plus with this you can adjust the throttle response and shut off the stupid AutoStart/Stop. And the cold air intake wasn't that much more work to install than it was to hook up all the sensors for the JB4, especially that one way in the back of the engine bay.

So excited to get mine! Glad to hear you are happy with it, especially coming from another tune.

The JB4 is hardly a tune, increases boost.

I’m actually surprised that everyone is still so excited about the current Cobb tune with no transmission tuning....

Can the TCM be tuned by an authorized Cobb tuner or have to wait for Cobb to introduce the TCM tune?

I installed the stage 1 93 tune (10 minutes, including ECU backup) and the CAI (1 hour taking my time) last night. I spent the most time trying to get the passenger side swirl generator out of the inlet tube. I took it for a short drive but didn’t get to open it up too much because the roads were wet. First impressions were the truck was much more responsive and the power felt smoother during acceleration. I heard a slightly louder intake sound from the CAI but nothing real noticeable. I’ll test it out some more today and do some WOT runs but so far I don’t have any regrets. I had already turned off auto start/stop a year ago with Forscan but the pedal response adjustment without needing a Pedal Commander is a nice feature.

I’m not sure about the others, but to me it’s about Cobb’s reputation and reliability and safety as a tuner. I wouldn’t trust any of the other tuner companies, personally. Not that I have any experience with them, because I don’t. Cobb has built a reputation for conservative and careful tuning over almost 20 years. Many of my friends have had Cobb tuned cars, often more reliable or just as reliable as stock. No CELs, wrench codes, random limps, etc.

So to be honest, if Cobb says I don’t need a transmission tune at Stage 1, I believe them. I haven’t had any problems with the transmission before the tune, and until I do with the Cobb tune, I don’t see any reason to doubt them.

Let’s be clear.

They say you don’t need it because they don’t offer it. For them to say otherwise is to endorse the other tuners who can offer that feature.

Further, you don’t NEED to tune your truck either. You tuned it because it IMPROVES the power over stock. You don’t NEED to tune the transmission, but it’s a whole lot better when you do.

You’ve not had a transmission tune on the Raptor so you don’t know what you’re missing. You think you like your Cobb tune. If I let you drive my truck, you would change your mind.

Do some timed runs and see if you can get to 60 in 4.2 seconds. Without a transmission tune I’m willing to bet you’re luckily if you do it in 5.
