Update: Rant Over lol!2nd time in the last year I've taken my truck to the dealer for this issue. 2 weeks ago the dealer finally agreed SSM 50972 was the cause of the rattle. Said the part was in stock & would be in within 2 days. Then I was told it was on backorder with release scheduled 01/26. On 01/26 was told the right front shock (ML3Z-18124-AP) is still on backorder with no clear ETA! So I picked up my broken truck after 2 weeks at the dealer! Priceless!!
I love the truck and have been patient up to this point through getting 3 wiring harnesses replaced, drive shaft recall, backup recall, tail gate opening recall, hounding the dealer to get 2 rear fender flairs replaced because of large gaps. Also upgraded to a 7/100 ESP warranty which they specifically told me I would receive rental car reimbursement. I'm still waiting on reimbursement from Ford Protect for my rental car in October. I'm losing my S$%T!
I had all four replaced after dealing with it for several thousand miles and then had to wait for all the shocks to come in (took months). Long story short: first dealer told me it was normal when the truck was new. Second dealer had their senior tech ride with me and he immediately heard it then agreed it wasnt normal. Order for four shocks went in. At this point i think my rear passenger shock is clunking again, which happens to be the first shock to arrive at the dealer back in march of 22. the others seem fine. My advice is to be persistent with the dealer and checkin witht he parts department every few weeks if the shocks dont come in immediately. My truck was manufactured on March 16 2022 and I have had this clunk since day 1. I'm almost positive on certain roads and condiditons the rattle/clunk is coming from both front and rear shocks. I'm not trying to just get 4 free shocks but it seems with the back order on this, that it will take multiple trips to the dealer and months to get this problem fully solved. Is there anyway to avoid this? After reading 90 pages of this thread it seems that some memembers got fronts replaced, rears replaced or even just one of either the fronts and rears. Is there any pattern to this? Mine goes in next wednesday and I've asked them to put "ears on it."
I guess I am going to just be annoyed when its better but not gone and it still requires a trip back to the dealer and then an order process all over again on national backorder.
Anyone who got this done with any advice? I'm stoked to get new shocks on after 15k but some days it sounds like the fronts and some days its the rears.
Some states actually have lemon laws that say within the first year or two of ownership, if the vehicle had been in the shop for more than 30 days total then it’s considered a lemon. That’s actually the case for Maryland and how I got ford to buy back my first GT350.Update: Rant Over lol!
I called a couple different Ford dealers trying to find the back ordered shock & found out that there were only 14 shocks at dealers around the US. I then called my dealer's parts department, bypassing my service advisor, & asked about transferring a shock from another dealer. They said they could call, but usually these parts are already promised to existing service customers. Anyway after about 3 days they called to say that they had located a shock in Cali....these guys are rock stars!
So picked up my truck on Thursday and finally the clunk/rattle in the right front is gone! Also went to the showroom & asked about trading the truck on a new Raptor or Braptor. So yesterday, I put a deposit on a Braptor that is scheduled to be built in April. We'll see if it gets built lol!
Finally, I also agree that part of my frustration maybe from my service advisor dragging his feet on maintenance concerns. Now I'm having low battery issues & his response is he has to wait until the battery tests bad.... Additionally, I estimate my truck has sat at the dealership for a cumulative 45-60 days in 17 months of ownership.
Yea I am just hoping that they say it's all 4 so I don't have to have a nagging problem like this through the summer. I am happy to get some stuff replaced after using it for 15k miles however since these shocks I think are about $900 each. Mine is my DD so leaving it at the dealer for days on end is an issue for me. I did find out I have a rental car through my Ziegler Ford extended warranty.I had all four replaced after dealing with it for several thousand miles and then had to wait for all the shocks to come in (took months). the shocks range from 900ish to 1600 depending on front and rear i believe. your dealer should be able to turn it around in a single day once they have the parts. be sure to have forscan so you can recalibrate the ride height/shocks when you get the truck back. mine was all of out whackYea I am just hoping that they say it's all 4 so I don't have to have a nagging problem like this through the summer.
