Is there even a mark on the plug to which you can time it?

No. Its. They say once you torque them to the correct amount they are clocked. They barely move from barely seated to fully torqued

its a taper fit plug, so no seal washer.

as long as torqued/manufactured properly, they should line up properly in the cylinder...

if of course you are running the ford plugs id have to assume...
