This is an old thread, but I don't want to start a new one on the same subject...

Within 20 miles of the odo turning over 30K miles, my check engine light came on (steady, not blinking). I ran a Vehicle Health Report, and it says what the manual says - that the On Board Diagnostics System has detected a problem with the engine, transmission or an emission-related component/system. Filled up a quarter-tank ago at the same station I always use that has no alcohol in the gas. Checked the fuel filler, and it's properly closed. Engine runs smooth and fine, and the transmission shifts properly. In other words, there is nothing apparently wrong except that the Check Engine Light is lit.

I'm skeptical that anything is wrong with the truck because I maintain it very well and there are no overt problems evident. I'm wondering if the odo crossing the 30K mark has tripped something. Should I disconnect the battery for a while and see if the warning light comes back on, top off the tank with gas from another station (it'll have alcohol), take it to the dealer???

It won't trip just because you rolled over 30k. Nothing is written in the logic to make them do that. I'd take it to autozone and at least let them scan it and see what it says before you try and clear it by disconnecting the battery.

This is getting interesting.

As a matter of covering all the bases, I put the battery on a good trickle charger overnight. This morning the Check Engine Light was still lit after a night of charging. Thinking it might be a tank of poor quality gas, I topped up the tank with about 10 gallons of Shell 93 octane. As I left the gas station the Check Engine Light was still on.

Taking Pirate Air's advice (thanks!) I drove immediately to Advance Auto and had them pull the codes. There was one code: P2098, and it said "Trim system too lean, Bank 2." When I started the truck to drive away, the Check Engine Light was NOT LIT. I asked him if he had cleared the code, and he assured me that it was an entire separate process from checking the codes and that he had not cleared it. Drove all the way home and the Check Engine Light remained dark.

Now here's the peculiar part. I have looked several places (Generic/Manufacturer OBD2 Codes and Their Meanings - Powered by Kayako Fusion Help Desk Software seems to be a complete list) and nowhere can I find P2098 or what it means. Does anyone know?

I'm thinking I got some bad gas and that topping up with 93 octane improved the quality of the fuel in the tank to clear the code, but I'd sure like to know what code P2098 means. I'm going to put some Sea Foam in the tank and hope that's the end of it.

I think that codes is your upstream O2 sensor. It may be bad or could be some other issues that are making it read like that. Could be bad car or a bad exhaust leak near it....

I had that same code on my Edge. Said it was o2 sensor. Problem happened and went away. Chalked it up to bad gas. Then it came back again month later. Ended up being Cat Converter was bad. Changed out under warranty and no problems since.

Oh wahhhh! I wish I was lucky enough to have all those simple issues! On the way down to florida my truck flashed me a red battery icon indicating that I have a bad alternator! Then about 20 miles into Florida I get a orange wrench meaning "reduced engine performance and electronic throttle limited." I need some help guys. How do I use my sct tuner to read codes anyways??
