Ordered new upper control arm and isolator. Not sure when I’ll get these on but will update once so. I’ll also check nitrogen again when I’m in there.

Anyone get a thud noise going over rough washboard like pavement? Those who have clunks, are the audible or mostly felt through the steering wheel?

Replaced struts yesterday and I noticed the bottom bushing has about a 1/16" of play and I can easily turn the metal part of the bushing by hand - that can't be normal.

After replacement, there is considerably less suspension noise but I still get a faint thud going over rough pavement. Who knows, my expectations for the front end quietness might be too high.

I have a video above or a few pages back showing how my inner rod on my rack was causing my "clunk" and definitely is felt through the wheel especially on washboard

Yeah that was one of the things I checked when replacing struts and everything felt solid. I don't really feel anything through the steering wheel. At this point I have a very mild hollow thud going over rough pavement at slow speeds. I think my expectations might be too high for an 8 year old truck.

You say that however my 2011 with 370k has no clunk and literally drives like a new truck and my 2012 with 100k has/had a clunk that was caused by that rack. I think there are many variables that can make a clunk... number one is probably the sway bar though imo

I agree - everyone in this thread is probably chasing a half dozen different problems resulting in clunking but the information that results is helpful none the less.

Monitoring for Notes

  • Lower Shock Mount / Shock in General - Seems to be a common issue.
  • Steering Assembly - mainly Rack itself vs just TieRods - Also seems to be a source of issues.
  • Control Arms Upper and Lower (ball joints) - always a possible cultprit
  • Hubs + Axle - Another Possible Culprit

Myself 65k Generally Crap @ ~15-30 mph along most roads really noticeable.
Dirt Roads much worse sounding.
