Catch Can - single v dual

Hi all. I’ve asked this questions multiple times in other discussions but haven’t had an answer yet. I expect it to be all over the board but love a good discussion and debate so here’s my question:

Is there a significant improvement of a dual catch can (mashimoto or radium) over a single (JLT)?

I’m already biased toward having a catch can over not having one from what I’ve read. I realize there are naysayers out there and feel free to chime in. I am slightly biased towards single over the double; it just seems like overkill but I’m open minded so convince me. Have to convince that it’s worth a bump from $135 for the JLT to over $425 for the others. That’s pretty significant. I respect the huge amount of experience I see on these forums and freely admit I’m a newbie at this and maybe have “1 wrench” mechanical ability...Tho having tons of fun with my mods! Thanks!!

What David said above...JLT is all you need...put one on mine a few months ago...works perfect...had about 1/4 of the can full after 2,000...and BTW...JLT does make the dual can for the Raptor,but when I called them they told me Passenger side is all you really need on my 2014.

One is all you need. Newer Eco engines are both DI and PI so it's less of problems as previous gen engines. I run JLT, am noticing 1 or so oz per 4-5K miles.

My understanding is the single does not pull a vacuum at wide open throttle, the dual has a pick up line on the intake side of the throttle plate that will create a vacuum at WOT. Unless you're racing or constantly beating the hell out of your truck a single is fine. I personally didn't want to go through the extra install of removing the intake pipes to drill a hole for the WOT port (b/c you can't stop the shaving from getting inside). Installed a JDT in less than 15mins and empty it every 3k miles.

Dual cans is not necessary. Don't listen to the idiots advising the JLT. The JLT system is single valve. THe best bang for your buck is a dual valve system. This is because we have turbo charged trucks....assuming yours is a Gen 2. JLT is fine for Gen 1 or other NA engines but is inadequate for a turbocharged engine. UPR makes a very nice dual valve system as well as other manufacturers. Who makes it is less important than the fact that it needs to be a dual valve system. The reason is that single valve systems like JLT only work during NA operation...once the boost kicks in...which is does frequently during most acceleration events....the single valve systems like JLT don't work. You'll be missing all the blow by created during boost. There are a lot of ignorant people that post about getting JLT cans or that one is not necessary. I suggest doing your own research and be informed. Here is a good starting point:

UPR Dual valve catch can for the reasons posted above.

Emptied after approximately 3,7xx miles.

Catching all that blow-by at Idle, regular operation and at full boost.
