I got really tired of finger prints on my shifter (ocd) so I covered it up. I had left over carbon fiber vinyl from covering my droid and decided to use it. It takes a lot of patience for sure, and a heat gun. Turned out pretty decent I think. It still needs to sit in the sun to smooth out a little more.

Looks really good! Much better than the "chrome" look. I hate the glare from the shifter/cup holder bezel when the sun hits it.

The carbon fiber is just a 1x1 square I got online. I had to remove the aux switches first. If you reach on the front of the switches (under a/c buttons), you pull it kinda back and up and it pops out. There are 3 different plugs for the aux switches, HDC, and ORM. After you get that off, put the truck in neutral. On the center shifter area, grab where it flares out back by the center console. It pulls straight up and pops off. Both the chrome surround and cup holder ring just snap on and off.
Shifter: Unfortunately I couldn't get the shifter off so had to wrap it in place. I just cut the vinyl to the shape/size of the chrome on it. It was pretty hard since you have to kinda tuck it under on the bottom.
The cup holder ring: I took the size vinyl I needed to cover that, peeled off the back and stuck it on upside down. I cut the excess inside and out leaving about a 1/2 inch extra all around. then the heat gun. I did it in for sections. One half outer, then inner. And then the other half outer, then inner. Just heated up the vinyl to where it was really soft and it stretched perfect.
Shifter surround: Pretty much the same as the cup holder ring. 1/2 inch excess all around in and out. Heat, and shape.
It takes patience but pays off. I no longer have a pimp my ride chrome shifter on my desert truck. And no more finger prints.
