I take it you werent using a canton mecca filter?

I used one on my old WRX build that was spinning a bit higher then most boxer motors and eating near 3 bar of boost. I snapped cams, blew piston rings due to over boosting, and general destroyed my motor. After take down and inspection not a single issue was spotted with improper oiling.

I honestly don't remember what the brand was but after that experience, and the experience of a few other fellow racers with different reusables I wouldn't use any of them

After looking around I think I was a system 1 reusable filter

Not something I would risk with my vehicle. I wouldn't let K&N pay me to use one of there filters of any kind either. I understand the part of using a filter magnet to help filter out debris but you can get those for any oil filter. The way you clean them sounds time consuming. At 8microns though is a good filter since most are around 30 microns.

You dont clean the filter elements, you replace them with new ones each oil change.

Hmm, would have thought they would have worked better to be honest. I know canton mecca has two different types of filter elements, one is an 8 micron filter and the other is designed to be used in a dual filter setup (its a mesh screen that does 150micron i think). I will be posting up my last two oil change analysis pdf's when i get them back. I figure the data will speak for its self.

Ok the one I read said you clean the filtering element with solvent so I was looking at something different.

That would not be a good idea to do, there is a reason why they sell the filter elements in bundles.

You may have seen something for the wire mesh based filter (150 micron filter element), i could see washing that out with some solvent before putting it back in but that system is not meant to be the ONLY filter in an oil system, its more of a prefilter.

K&P engineering is there name but I don't see what there micron rating is.
