Hi all,

2020 Leadfoot SCREW. Current mods include popular Forscan changes, BD triple bezel lights, and Retrax pro. I'm currently using Pedal Commander, but only because I wanted to get a few thousand miles before installing a tune. Before you guys crush me with check out all the other threads, believe me I have. I've probably spent more time than I should reading through all the posts and have found them very helpful in narrowing down my tune choices to MPT, JDM, and Gearhead (kind of leaning towards MPT).

MPT - very popular on the forum, seems like strong performance, reliability and service. But tune requires 91 or 93, which isn't hard to find in NJ, but I worry a little about some dude here in NJ ******** up and fueling me up with regular when I asked for 93. For those of you that aren't familiar with NJ, it's a real pain in the arse. We are not allowed to pump our own gas. Drives me bat shit crazy.

JDM - seems like another strong tune, great service from what I hear. Pro would be they are located in NJ and only about 45 mins from me. Same issue as MPT on the fuel requirement.

Gearhead - the pro here is their tune, at least as marketed, automatically adjusts to fuel. So if by chance I were to get a bad tank, I wouldn't have to worry about the engine as much.

All three tune both power and trans, which is why these made the list. Not really interested in Cobb (yes I know there are a lot of fans here) and 5-star.

For the time being, I don't plan on making any other performance mods (e.g., CAI, etc.) as I want to see how the tune performs on stock and want to be able to flash back to stock if warranty visit is needed (yes, I know that dealers can still tell it was flashed, but why give them even more reason to dig deeper). I might change the plugs with a set gapped at .0028, but curious what your thoughts are how important this is.

Any thoughts on which tune and why?

Thanks!

I went with the ORA550. Everyone has their own opinions on tunes. What swayed me was the Auto Octane part. There are places in West Texas where 93 isn't available and I don't want to have to worry about changing tunes. I also ordered the CVF intercooler and hope to have the installed in the next week or so.

cobb all the way and have goose tuned due a custom map for you

the cobb sport + transmission tune is amazing shifts and feels like a DCT vs stock

i have E50 blend and putting down 500hp to the rear on cobb and goose tune can spin tires in

3rd gear if i want usually have to drive in 4A and Sport with the E50 tune

The ORA550 is the Gearhead Tune but modified. I emailed directly to Gearhead and ORA. Wasn’t convinced after their responses that ORA did enough to merit the marked increase in price over the Gearhead after communication with both. ORA was not able to identify what exactly they “improved”. There is quite a big price difference when you buy the cheapest ORA550 tune option and subtract the spark plug cost when compared to the Gearhed; and when you realize it’s essentially the same tune, just doesn’t make sense to me. Gearhead stands by their product and says it’s constantly tweaking and updating. Haven’t pulled the trigger yet, but when I do, it will be with Gearhead.

I do the exact same and agree 100% with this endorsement.

Your worries about fuel are kinda perplexing to me...

If you're going to tune a twin turbo truck, you are really going to want to run high octane.

Seems like a no brainer with JDM 45 minutes away. Everything doesn't always go perfect, these trucks can be sensitive *******.

I have 3 years in MPT and it’s outstanding.

gearhead was such a small gain that it was hardly worth it. Five star is entirely unrefined. Gearhead was .7 seconds slower to 60 then MPT and only 0.2 seconds faster than stock.

the auto octane thing is all hype. The truck retards timing with the knock sensor and MPT leaves that in tact. You won’t Grenade the engine on 91 or 87. I’ve inadvertently run 91 without problems. It’ll knock retard the same as anyone else.
