Canoe/kayak Rack

So I've got a SCREW and clearly the bed is too short to toss a canoe or kayak in. I was looking at building essentially a 2x4 rack that would drop into pockets on the bed rails at the very back of the bed. I would be able to place the front of the kayak on the roof of the truck and the rear on the rack at the rear.

I have looked at other F150's and see that they have the cut outs for the pockets in the bed rail. Mine and I assume other Raptors do not have the cutouts. I was going to cut into them to get to the pockets which I assume are there. Am I wrong in thinking that the beds are the same between the F150 line? Has anyone looked under the plastic on the bed rails or know of a good way to transport a kayak or canoe in their truck?

the bed isn't too short for kayaks. I routinely carry 5 kayaks. I tie a ratchet through all the front handles and back handles. It is bullet proof. I also have an extender for my canoes. If I'm taking them. Here is the link for the extender.

I use a one of the the crossbar type bed extenders that plugs into the receiver hitch for my canoe (it is 14' 6"). I can't find a link or pic at the moment.

ah you guys are cute what would I do without your shenanigans. For serious though I did ask google. Magic Dan you're missing my point I am cheap and just want to drop some 2x4's into the pockets if they are even there. I just want to know if anyone else has looked under the plastic covering and seen if they even exist. I don't want to spend the cash on some thule brand BS racks that just secures to the bed with a few bolts.

Java for a day trip its great but then there goes your bed space for all the other camping gear. Thanks for the heads up though!

Take care of your equipment. How large is your canoe? How far are you travelling? What speed are you travelling? There are a lot of wind forces on that large sail.

How are you going to mount the cab side?

Also, for home made racks, your boat should have a minimum of 6 contact points.

I saw your (this) thread the other day then ran across this one today. There is pocket holes. I would think that you could get a 2"x2" or something similar in there and build a rack. I had a homemade canoe rack on my previous F150 and it worked well.
