A couple months ago I took my truck to the dealership because I was having harsh shifts and harsh gear changes. They did the flash/reprogram that everyone on here was talking about and the truck drove flawlessly until yesterday. All of a sudden the shifting went right back to crap. Going from R to D feels like the drivetrain is gonna fall out of the truck. So my question is do I need to take it in every couple months to have the TCM re-flashed or will something like COBB tranny tune fix this problem?

Mine did the same thing. Ford told my dealer to clear the adaptive learning and it's back to perfect after that. I was told you can reset the adaptive learning by disconnecting the battery for a little while but I haven't tried it.

So they need to disable the adaptive learning or clear it and then eventually have to clear it again, and again and again...?

The dealership is telling you to reset the Keep Alive Memory which will erase the learned behavior of the transmission, but eventually the truck will relearn.

Unless the dealership has an update to apply to your vehicle, or the truck receives a custom tune this will be the case.
Our JDM Engineering custom tune from the ground up revamps both the engine and transmission programming to eliminate the rough and clumsy behavior of the stock tune from Ford.

Mine actually had some parts that were worn. See work order below. I'm taking it back in Wed for same issue. Harsh shift form Park to drive, erratic downshifting, and it seems to skip from 1st to 3rd and other gears are skipped no matter speed.

The gears skipping are normal. That is how the transmission is designed.

Burned clutch plates and sticky fluid solenoids is NOT normal. Thanks for posting details Raptor10x!

Sounds like the Raptor Trans has some learning disabilities if its memory has to be cleared all the time!

Well you obviously have difficulties with reading comprehension. Let’s try this again. The 10r80 transmission that is in the Raptor is programmed to skip gears when able to according to how someone drives. Never did I say anything about burned up clutches being normal. I’ve already had my transmission repaired for slamming gears and lurching I’m to drive. Ended up being the Main Control valve body had valves sticking.

Totally understand why the trans skips gears under its TCM program. The reason I brought up the clutch and trans repairs not being the TCM is because many dealers will say "working as designed" until the trans blows up!

No disrespect intended to you Darkhorse99.

Understand. The reason why I mentioned that, is most people when they didn’t come from a Raptor, don’t know the Trans is supposed to skip gears. I don’t particularly like it and i think it’s part of the problem with hard shifts sometimes. If your cruising at slow speed, say driving through a neighborhood, it shifts screwy and shifts in to too high of a gear and lugs along. But yes, burnt up clutches are no good, the TCM and PCM relearn is a joke. That can be done on your own with a KAM reset. I’ve done it several times. But yes, Op, if you take your truck in they will tell you the skipping gears part is normal. It is.
