So the first time you noticed the noise etc around 11K miles. Took it in. Got it fixed.

"First time" implies you heard the noises again and took it in again before they bought it back. But usually it's 3 times etc for any lemon law to take affect.

Can you elaborate a bit on what happened after the first fix?

You got it fixed at 11Kish. Then it must have failed again? At how many miles? And when did you decide you've had enough?

Just trying to get a picture of the progression from the first failure to your buy back... Thanks (in advance) for the details! This willl greatly help me and others who may get in this boat...

This is the first time I have taken it in. I wasn't sure it wasn't 'normal' when I first heard it. Started investigating and it progressively has gotten worse.

Dealer told me they heard it again this morning, they are waiting on Ford to tell them what to do.

Yeah - it was ok after the first fix for about 2500 miles and it came right back. Same sound even. Took it back and they had to do it all again. I had enough and after reading that so many have this problem, I demanded (and got) the buy back. The dealer helped that since they also see the issue. Just a frustrating experience.

Dang. 2500 miles on the new fix. Man that sucks. But yup, I would have done the same. And that's exactly why I would try to get out of the truck if it happens even the first time. Rhetorically, was new failure their error for not fixing it correctly or the fix just didn't work? Prob will never know and, if they did do it wrong, what else will get screwed up in the future? Man. Frikin sucks. I'm glad you were taken care of though.

I'm planning on a late build order of a Raptor this year and, if I have the problem, I will obviously be greatly disappointed. And yours is a 2019 so that means the "bad" parts, potentially, are still being used.

I would normally lease first but leasing is not available for the Raptor, from what I'm told. I lease for several reasons: 1) to get into the vehicle easier (financially) since the payments are lower than a 5 year purchase 2) to make sure I like and can live with the vehicle 3) if there are any major problems... they get it back. I have heard of some leases for the Raptor and that they're not worth it because the payments are the same as buying, but I would take that lease just for the option to give it back in case of a major problem.

Just got my 17 back from the dealer today after 3 weeks for phasers. This is the second time @ 30k miles. First time was at 20k miles and took a month. Dealer serviced every 5k with Motorcraft oil and filter.

Man that is total BS. Sorry for your troubles. I can't believe the fix is also failing. Man, WTF? This tells me that, in your case, it's not just the phasers but something else going on. There's no way they would fail twice on your truck with 95% of all the other Raptors out there not failing.

After the second failure, assuming I successfully got through the first failure, I would have demanded a buy back or a trade in to another truck. Once is bad enough but I can't imagine going through that twice...

Did you buy yours used? I'm assuming you got it new...

I ordered and bought the truck brand new.

They have replaced the phasers twice but I don’t feel they have found the root cause as to why they are failing.

Fortunately they gave me an additional extended warranty after the first failure. I have a feeling I will be needing to use it again.

When did you take it in the 2nd time? You got phasers in 3 weeks? I took mine in begining of June and they told me Phasers are on back order till August!

I went ahead and ask for a buy back and waiting to hear from Ford. I haven't decided if I want to take the buy back if the approve it but after seeing this post of a second time failure of the cam phasers it makes me wonder if I should take the buy back if they do offer it?

I am thinking that most 17-18 (and 19s) have some kind of issues, why else are they for sale. Who buys such a nice truck and turn arounds and dumps them unless it has major issues they don't want to deal with!

I was in the same situation. My 19 failed twice, and Ford bought it back. I am not in another ecoboost - just waiting to see if anything cool comes out in the future.

I just had an interesting conversation with my dealership about my truck and this issue in general on the gen 2 3.5l. I can't post specifics as I'm suing for a buyback at this point. I will follow up with this post once I'm through litigation. I will say it appears to be a bigger issue than some on here believe. They (my dealership) have replaced cam phasers on a truck previously and the issue came back within 15k miles. I was also the second gen 2 in that week for the loud start up noise. I don't live in an area that has a massive amount of Raptors. Dealers around here sell 2-7 a year.

What do you think this sound is? I dropped my 2018 off at the dealer today. When I played the video for the service writer, he got me a rental and an appointment right away. For what it's worth, I posted this video in another discussion inadvertently. I deleted it and brought it here. Don't want anyone thinking I'm trolling. New to this.

Just took my 17 in for that exact noise. Ended up being cam phasers and high volume oil pump. Took them 3 days to swap.
