Hello everyone, new to the forums. I’m looking at a used 2018 Raptor. It’s a 802A, and has a good bit of mods. To start it has DTE chip,DTE throttle control response controller,AMS intake tubes,RCI skid plate,S&B intake, BAJA lighting,BAK MX4 tonneau, method race wheels, Diode dynamic lighting,Deaver 3” leaf springs, RPG 2” drop shackles, RPG adjustable shock collars, and RPG bump stop Kit. It looks to be in great condition. Only 31k miles. Says he only used it as a pavement princess, is there anything I should be looking for when I check it out? Any help is appreciated. Coming from a ram 2500 so I’m not to sure what to look for. Also this will be a daily driver.. Any help is appreciated!

One post is enough. Prospective Owners is where most people put posts on this subject, but please don't post this a third time.

Good looking rig- check the ride height make sure it’s not uneven & make sure still rides nice & smooth - you can really mess w/ the raptor ride when doing suspension mods if not done correctly although sounds like they used quality parts. The shocks should be good but factory recommended rebuilding as early as 50k miles depending on usage

I’d ask to do a dead cold Start- open the hood & touch the block make sure it’s cold to the touch- start the truck & if you hear an audible rattle for a few seconds on cold start has cam phaser issue- not a deal breaker by any means is covered under warranty & won’t prevent the truck from driving around normal but shouldn’t be left to go for crazy extended amount of time I’d think

drive around w/ windows down alternate between 2H & 4A & see if you hear any noise from front end - if you hear a faint growling rough type sound could be the IWE (4x4 actuator system) malfunctioning hubs not fully disengaging, usually sound appears in 2H goes away in 4A/4H- if that’s the case & hasn’t been drawing on forever typically it’s a 5 min fix w/ a $10 part- IWE check valve that helps w/ the vacuum operated 4x4 engagement

Many people (including myself) just keep a spare check valve in the glove box in case this happens for a quick fix, doesn’t seem like this causes permanent immediate damage, just unnecessary wear on moving parts, & since Raptors have a unique wet clutch transfer case they’re truly the only 1/2 ton out there that essentially can run in “AWD” on bone dry pavement- I’ve had “4 automatic” function in a GM truck & used in a normal Ford F-150- it’s not the same thing as what you got in the raptor

I’d check the oil level make sure it’s not burning anything crazy (also not unheard of)

If it has the dual panel sunroof......nice looking option.....but here’s the deal, when it’s the first time you’re opening it for the day or especially after it’s been sitting before or after rain/snow or gone through temp/humidity extremes where the weather stripping can get “stuck”/@ to speak you essentially “have” to pop the roof up in vent position the first time every time before having it slide back to the full open position. If not when the front piece drops down initially it sometimes gets stuck & people have had issues w/ the plastic tracks breaking & causing other issues- not necessarily leaks but just malfunction not closing all the way all the time & not reopening etc. I had this feature on my first 2018 raptor & got an extended warranty basically for that sole reason. It’s honestly probably one of the only “big” annoyances I’ve noticed being on these forums.

check underneath see if you have a plastic or metal oil pan. Mid/late model year 2018s transitioned to metal pan- there have been issues w/ the plastic/composite ones leaking- these are covered under warranty, & I think there are now conversion kits, but not worth the warranty.

all that being said- I was a die-hard GM/V8 truck guy- had 4 of em, my last ‘15 GMC was totaled by a deer & I got a fat ins check- drove EVERYTHING at the time including Diesels- wound up getting won over by the ‘18 Raptor......fast forward to Halloween of this year freak snow storm in MA & a girl drilled me front end/broad side running red light - totaled my 2018 Raptor & then I got a massive ins check (like- more than I originally paid including ttl & also covered the $2.5k of mods I installed & left me w/ bout $2k extra in “thank you” $$$ for simply driving the baddest 1/2 ton on the planet- yep- ain’t nothing holding value better than a Raptor!!!!!!)

so- I said, I got this huge payout, need to make certain I get what I want - wound up driving everything under the sun AGAIN & still wound up back in a 2020 Raptor

I drove the RAM 1/2 tons too ( they’re.....cute....luxurious?) & the 2500 Cummins w/ mega cab- that truck was cool but was like mid-life design 1/2 old gen 1/2 new gen- very weird getting outta the fully redesigned Ram 1/2 ton into the sorta redesigned 3/4 ton

only other truck that had me 2nd guessing was actually another Ford- a 2020 F259 Tremor 6.7 diesel......if I couldn’t land a raptor may have taken that instead

hope this helps ya
